Most common positional shots in rotation games, that require extreme side?

Anything along the Verticle line of the cue ball, 12 o'clock high, or 6 o'clock low.

Example...

If you look at a wall clock and someone says, ''it's six o'clock straight up.

The minute hands on 12 and the hour hands on 6.
That line from top to bottom, has NO cue ball squirt.

Right. Thanks.

This cueing has NO cue ball squirt, its a totally different shot than ''all of the other'' outside 1 tip only cueing's. ie 12345 & 78910.
Hands on table by a good instruction is needed here.
I don't think there's a simple, easy explanation for you on a keyboard.
You need to be at table with a Good instructor.

Sorry, I think either I'm misunderstanding your post or you are misunderstanding my question. Can you elaborate on what part of my post(s) this is a reply to?

To elaborate my original point, I answered to you asking what I mean with extreme side, and tried to say, that for me, extreme side is any shot where the tip is 1 or more tip widths away from the middle, no matter your horizontal position. So 1.5 tips of side is extreme no matter it's below, above or on center along the other axis.

I saw an old Mike Sigel match recently in which he was hitting a rail shot where the ob was maybe an inch off the rail. He used extreme low outside for the shot which really surprised me. I hit some shots like that and you can pretty much aim straight at the ob and it will go in... not sure I'd make that my go-to shot but it's good to know how to execute shots like that.

hey dan, can you link the vid or diagram the shot? having trouble visualizing.

If I understood correctly, he means using a lot of side at such an angle and speed that the correct aiming line goes through the center of the OB. Or in other words, a shot where to compensate for the throw, you aim to the center of the OB.

Here's a diagram of two common situations. You cannot get to the indicated paths off the red with only moderate spin. Or to put it another way, however far you can get with moderate spin on these sorts of shots, more spin will expand your possible range. (Sorry for the lousy diagram -- I'm stuck with Paint right now.

I think we need to know the cut angle. From the description we have no idea where the cue ball is.

I'm guessing, but it is possible the cue ball was the same distance off the cushion as the OB and Mike shot straight at the OB with outside (away from the cushion) and threw the ball in. Maybe that's the shot. Such shots only work at moderate speed -- to let swerve cancel the squirt -- and extreme side is not needed.
