My son and I watched "The Hustler" together the other night and it got me curious about the cue Fast Eddie used in the movie. If someone has it, with a solid provenance, how much is it worth? Does anyone know where it wound up?

Just Curious,
Steve

It is just a Joss production cue. I don't know about the particular one in the movie, which I kind of wonder about too. Good question....anybody....anybody.

JOSS didn't exist in 61, not an option...

Runnin8 talk about The Hustler, not the Color of the Money.... And I think that the cue Dan Janes made for the Color of the Money was not a production model. He surely make an one-of-a-kind. After the succes of the film, he certainly introduced the same design for a model in his production series...

I don't recall ever really getting a good long look at the cue but it struck me as a Titlest forearm, steel joint, with white delrin type of buttcap. Of course, in COM Fast Eddie says his cue is a Balabushka but is, in reality, a Joss line cue.

I think Paul Newman still has that cue.

I'd be surprised if it was a BUSHKA. The "hot" names then were PARADISE,RAMBOW and MARTIN.
Was it even referred to as a BUSHKA in the book or movie?

Can't remember..........

Joss was the fake Buska in The Color of Money.

YEP..................

And Gleason's cue was sold at Billiardcue.com

Thanks Joey.

As I read the info from the site:

"~ from ~ Willie Mosconi ~ to ~ Jackie Gleason ~

a gift from Willie Mosconi to Jackie Gleason for appreciation of their friendship and the movie "The Hustler" ~ consider that this cue was commissioned by the most famous pool player of all time, from the innovator of modern cue making, as a gift for the legendary movie actor that portrayed the character 'Minnesota Fats' in the most well known of all pool related movies

It doesn't say that the cue was what he used in the movie. What do ya'll think?

come on guys...this is an easy one. Newman and gleason both used Rambows in "The Hustler.

Yes they certainly did, and both cues were autographed from Willie Mosconi to Jacki Gleason and from Willie Mosconi to Paul Newman. They were gifts from Mosconi to them, Willie was the choreographer for the move, and he also made a number of the shots. During the movie, whenever, you could only see a hands during a shot Willie was shooting it.

Back to the cues, Willies favorite cue was a Rambow, and Herman and Willie were good friends, so getting the cues made was not a problem. The only thing that Willie most likely regretted about the movie was that during a conference with the press he made the statement the movie involved a Hustler from his younger days named New York Fat's. This one statement allowed New York fats to legitimize that the move was about him, so he changed his name to Minnesota Fats, and that is the rest of the story!!!!!!

You are so right -- and there's also a small cameo (actually just a few frames) of Willie as he racks the balls.

I thought I read in Willie's Game or in a Billiards Digest article that both cues were Willie's personal cues. It's been a while, so I may be wrong.

I think Bert Kinister may have the cue or the case that Newman carried in the Hustler. Somebody told me that once but Im not sure.

Found this info on a Seybert archive

Eventually I found my way to Rambow?s workshop and display room on North Wabash. He was very gracious and enjoyed telling me and my friend Richard about the many cue sticks he had in his cabinets and was in the process of making. He had an assistant who complained that little work was done as Mr. Rambow spent so much time talking. He was very old, probably over eighty, and simply did as he choose.

He was particularly proud of the picture he had of Jackie Gleason and Paul Newman in his shop when they visited to have cue sticks made for the movie, The Hustler. I can?t remember if Willie Mosconi was in the photo, but he had visited the shop with Newman and Gleason. "

Freeze frame and zoom definitely matches up the "Gleason Cue" with the same style used by Fats in the movie. Maybe in high def we could even see if it is inscribed!:D

Assuming Joey's right about Newman still having his cue, what would it bring if it came up for sale? $75K?

The case is interesting too... why would it be separated from the cue?
