Most underrated cue game instructional materials?

I know there's a section where this might fit better, but I'd like for it to stay here, just because this area sees high traffic.

What books, videos, etc. seem to be the most UNDERRATED in what it can do to improve people's games?

As in, have any of you folks picked up a pool, 3-cushion, snooker.....basically any cue game instructional material.....and it did wonders for you, however you rarely ever see it mentioned?

I'm just hoping we can find some rarely sourced information that, for one reason or another, doesn't get the credit it deserves.

Looking forward to some lists.

I own that one. It is a really good video.

I also have his pool 101 that I think would be an excellent video for new players to the sport, especially the youth. Very basic, but thorough.

Mark, do you have any more instructionals coming out? Or at least any plans for some in the future?

I am working on Ron Vitello's 90/90 aiming DVD now, it should be ready in September.
I also have a friend that was a road player that I have filmed some, and I have a couple other projects in the works but nothing set in stone.
Thanks
Mark

Hi there,

the PAT Test created by Jorgen Sandman(Swedish Coach/trainer), Andreas Huber(German National Head Coach) and Ralf Eckert (Top Pro,commentator, author and coach) is by far the most underrated test of ability and Americans don't generally take it because it REALLY gauges your ability.
And the other most helpful but hard-to-find improvement is
Kim Davenport's Target Pool-
enjoy!

Cue ball control beet sheets. Great info and resource. If you get to where you can play all the shots as he shows, you will be a very solid player.

HB, I own the IPAT tests. I've only shot on level 1 and it was killer. I definitely need to revisit them.

I'm not familiar with Kim Davenport's Target Pool. Is it still available?

Mantis, I've never heard of those "beat sheets". Who came up with them and where can they be found?

The Bert Kinister produced VHS tape series featuring Don Feeney. Those are the best instructional videos I've ever seen. Of course, Grady's Advanced Principles of Pool & Billiards is a favorite (not really underrated).

The large area position tests (1-6a & 1-6b) are much harder than they look and are very useful for end-game layouts. All of the tests within Level 1 are very good for teaching precision cueball control. Level 2 only gets harder, and level 3 is a serious challenge.

I came here to say the PAT booklets too.

There are a bunch of YouTube vids of Hohmann making it look like child's play.

Does anyone have the Level 1 book and DVD available? They are out of stock everywhere I look.

I have a lot of books, tapes/dvd's, and gadgets, lol. What helped me most was Joe Tuckers's book Guaranteed Improvement. Its $11 and has simple drills that are fun to do, where you keep score to see how you are progressing. I think the score keeping part is also motivational, and can keep you from getting bored of the drills.

The other thing that helped me a lot, to see the balls much better (and I DON'T intend to turn this into an aiming thread!), is Geno's perfect aim dvd. Just stating that it worked to improve my sighting of the balls. (I still stink though! lol)

The Wagon Wheel System & Filipino Gene articles

The Wagon Wheel System by Ted Brown. Also, a series of Filipino Gene articles from a CA magazine. An AZ member mailed the articles to me years ago and I wish I remembered his name. I'm still thankful!

I checked and it's listed as, "out of print". That might mean permanently, or it might mean a second printing hasn't been started yet. So instead, there are some video examples of Fast Mikie running through the tests. Some are missing, and are listed below. I also have a scoresheet I made in Excel that can be used if the IPAT material remains out of print.

Playlist of the IPAT Level 1 tests.

Missing drills:

1-4 Draw Drill (same as 1-3 but you must draw the cueball back to the head rail and pot the ball.)

1-6b (Large area position, same basic setup as 1-6a, but the balls are lined up along the center of the table, either corner can be used in this one)

1-9a, b, c, d, e ("standard shots")

Any of George Fels' books on pool is better than the regurgitated stuff written by ghost writers and signed off on by pros. He's more strategy oriented, though iirc. When it comes to mechanics they all basically say the same thing.
