I've read the term "mother drill" in one of these forums and wonder what they are. Please enlighten me and expound a little on the how and why. I'm practicing with a few drills that i picked up here or there but would very much like to know how I can structure my practice.

with appreciation,
Henry

For example the *SPF Family* (a group of instructors) handing the *mother drills* out to their students after working with them. With the usually by the instructor made video analysis and some explanations, they can work with several drills on their fundamentals and their game. This should then also include the *famous mother drills* :-)

The *mother drills* are kind of drills, where you can immediatley see for example if you re *out of line* :-)

But i am sure that Scott Lee, Randy Goettlicher , Rufus Carter or someone else will jump into this thread to give more precise information ^^

the mother drills are simple drills that are used to keep your stoke in line ONCE AN INSTRUCTOR HAS CORRECTED YOUR STROKE....

Its my understanding that the mother drills would have little value if not combined with proper stroke instruction.......

michael4...The purpose of any drill or exercise should be to either correct an error, or help ingraine a good habit. The Mother Drills are progressive drills used to help a student create their own 'bullitproof' setup and delivery process, and then how to allow the student to use diagnostic tools to make self-corrections, when something is off or out of line. It's true that without the personalized instruction to show a student how to achieve their goals, the drills by themselves would seem to have limited application. Since the OP is in China, it would be difficult for him to receive the proper instruction on how to use them for the best benefit.

If you would like something similar but without the great advantage of a live instructor next to you, see the March issue in http://www.sfbilliards.com/articles/cols2010r.pdf
If that is useful to you, you may also want to look for other drills in http://www.sfbilliards.com/articles/BD_articles.html
