Do you realize Brad Pitt is 21 years older than Scarlett? IE: Old enough to be her father..!

He is too old to play Eddie and she is too young to play Sarah.

I do like the choice of Ed Norton...

And just a note about the original performance by Piper Laurie, she was
nominated for an Oscar, she later won for best supporting actress for her performance as the Mother in Carrie.

Naomi Watts would be another better choice.

Yes, I know how old Brad Pitt is. He is 44. But I think he would be believable in the role. Are you aware that Paul Newman was 36 when he made "The Hustler?" BTW, Piper Laurie was 29 when she made "The Hustler." Scarlett Johansson is 23.

It's interesting someone brought up Steve Buscemi. I thought of him as Preacher. And I think Efren would be good as Willie.

Gandolfini is perfect!!! I like Dustin Hoffman as Burt.Scarlett isn't a good choice.WAY too pretty and naive to play the role of an "around the block" girl

I'll tell you why I like SJ. She has a great emotional vulnerability that comes across onscreen. And she has that quality of being an attractive woman who doesn't realize how attractive she really is. I think those are qualities Sarah possesses. Another choice that I think would be interesting is Christina Ricci; especially if you made her a meth addict rather than an alcoholic. I think CR could pull of that sort of role very well.

And here's a few more casting idea- Anthony Hopkins as the billiard playing millionaire from Louisville. And Keith McCready as the would be 9 ball hustler in the scene where Eddie gets his thumbs broken.

Damn, I think we need to call Paramount and let them know we've got this thing knocked out!

Christina might work,she has the whole trashy thing going.Maybe too much so.Sarah,to me,is a woman who is highly educated about life and people,yet,can't make good decisions for herself.She has a hard time applying what she knows to her decision making.The classic alcoholic/addict dilemma.What do you think about Julia Stiles playing Sarah?

If this movie were to come out..be it a prequel/sequel/remake whatever....
with the actors we are throwing around...do you realize what that would do to our game....every single hall would full of bangers....every day.... sure it would grow the sport..but I bet it would make life at the hall suck for a little while...

Lol...Ed Norton seems to be the go-to guy in forums. Let's face it, Norton can act anything. How about Christian Bale? I think Leo Dicaprio would do well too. Daniel Craig, Jaime Foxx, Ryan Reynolds. Directors: Obviously Scorsese. I like Clint Eastwood too.

For the role ...

of Sarah, I would cast a different type than SJ, someone with more acting depth, but still pretty, like Anne Heche or Val Kilmer's wife, Joanne Whaley Kilmer.

Edward Norton is perfect. He has that Poolplayer air about him anyway.

I love the fact of having Morgan Freeman in the movie. He is a greatly underrated actor, and always adds a lot to any movie.

Any thoughts about having Robert Redford in the movie? He always adds a touch of class.

I was thinking of Reese as well, I just watched Freeway the other night she can really pull off a tough little cookie and I think that is a great call on Leanardo!

Whenever I see Reese on TV and the interviewer reels off a list of her credits, Freeway is never mentioned. Sometimes I think she's trying to distance herself from what I think is a wonderful performance. I mean she's really heroic in that movie. Guess she prefers to be one of America's sweethearts.

Let me think of an alternate. After all, Leo might be tied up with other obligations. I've got to eliminate all pro players from consideration. As much of a kick it was to see Willie in the hustler, his acting was clumsy. I idolized Babe Ruth as a kid and saw quite a few movies where he had cameos, but even playing himself he was far from convincing. I don't think I'm over generalizing when I say with few exceptions sports heroes don't make good actors.

Paul Sorvino as Fats might work. For Eddie we need someone brash and vulnerable, gutsy but not too tough. What ever happened to Vin Diesel? Or, howabout Forrest Whitaker as Fats and Will Smith as Eddie? And if Reese's busy, maybe Jennifer Lopez isn't. Love that J-Lo!

I think Deniro's too old; but Leonardo DiCaprio would make an interesting Fast Eddie, and for a girlfriend, let's go with Reese Witherspoon - not the sweetheart Reese from Legally Blond, the raunchy Reese from Freeway, one of my favorite flicks.

I red the original thread and thought about who would make a good fast Eddie in a remake I thought all day today at work and came up with Leonardo Dicaprio then wondered if anyone would think the same. Came home to read this post. Dicaprio has the smile all the charm and the box office appeal. Done deal !!!! Philw

I guess it's because he's been said to be a player that he gets mentioned, sort of like Jackie Gleason was a player. But, I don't think I deliberately made a joke. After all, John Goodman played Babe Ruth, Jamie Foxx played Ray Charles, Kurt Russell played Elvis, and Jim Carey played Truman (not Harry). Looks like anything goes.
