I'm thinking of going into business filming pool players while they are prcticing by themselves or with a competitor.

First - Do you think there is a market for this service?

Secondly - What type of camera would be best to perform this service?

Thirdly - What type of additional lighting would be required?

...and their cut is how much? Are you planning to do this surreptitiously, or with their knowledge and/or approval?

Scott, maybe he wants to charge people to make videos of themselves so they can evaulate their own game? At least that's how I took his statement.

I think it could be very interesting for tournaments. I know a handful of photographers that have gone to events, taken photos and were able to sell them off. Having video would be even more valuable to some people.

The only problem is, your best customer is going to be the guy who played the set of his life and you happened to get it on tape and you're going to have a lot of sets where that isn't the case.

I would recommend going to tournaments and focusing on the tournament favorites. That way, if there's an upset, you probably have a sale.
 
Saw this done at the New York State 9-ball Championship several times, but don't know the details. IIRC, it was someone from up around Utica that was doing it. The players paid the guy to film their matches.

Pat Fleming and Accu-Stats started doing this at tournaments nearly 20 years ago.
 
I will pay you to film pool players doing interesting things at events, such as trying to shave bald spots on other player's heads, throwing talc powder at other players, using fart machines, or anything involving streaking, midgets, or pornography. I will pay you well for this.
 
I don't want to do this at tournaments. I was thinking of doing this for the benefit of the player. I would film players who would like video feedback to improve their game. Nothing more nor nothing less. Nothing clandestine.
