Gentlemen,

I am thinking of buying an antique table that we think is a Liberty. It is five hundred miles from my place, so I have a few logistics problems to work out.

One is the weight issue....the decision is whether to go in my full size Dodge pickup or attach an enclosed twelve foot trailer. Do any of you guys have an estimate of the total weight of a Liberty? The Brunswick website says one inch slate. The owner said he thought it was 1 3/4, but admitted he didn't know much about tables.

Would you have an approximate weight for each slate section for the common thicknesses that I may actually find when I get out there? More than likely, I will build a wood frame for each section, so my wife and I can move them as easily as possible.

What tools should I expect to need for disassembly? I have most hand tools, but is there a possibility of a needing any unusual or specialty tool?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

The slates weigh less than 200lbs each. Total table weight is about 1,400lbs or so. 1" is the comon size slate for that table.

Hi Joe

I think your truck can carry the table no problem, but unless your wife is really strong you will need help carrying the slates.

Thanks, Hammy.

Well, for a good lookin' ol' gal, she's pretty strong. We built a couple of houses together, and she can hold up her end of the chore pretty well. We have a good two wheel dolly and I think I can maybe I can add a plywood fixture to that, and lash the slate to the fixture. But, more than likely, I can get another set of hands at each end of the trip, as well.
