Moving a GC 1

I'm planning on moving the GC 1 that I bought this weekend from the sellers house.

I've worked on a couple tables before but never worked on a GC.

I have the service manual for the table. I understand the slates are pinned together what is the correct way to separate these ? Also are there any special tools that I might need ?

Thanks

No real special tools are needed, the manual pretty much covers it. Allen wrench for the pockets, ratchet/extension, 9/16's socket, 3/4" wrench, flat tip screw driver, 7/16"s wrench, razor knife, drill with a #3 slot drive for the slate screws, unless they're Phillips headed screws, in which case you'll need a #3 bit.

Take a razor knife, cut across the filling in the seams. Use a flat tip screw driver to pry apart the seams of the slates. Take the pockets out before removing the top rails, then remove the slates. If the table has a ball return, remove the ball box tray first, then remove the ball return tracks, then remove the rails, then the slates, then the slate frame bolted to the leg pedistals...and you're ready to load and move.

You're also going to need a pair of side cutters and an awl to remove the staples from the bed cloth.

You might also want to bring a set of combination wrenches, the frame bolts on the GC 1 are square heads, 8 point sockets work really well also.

Before removing the aprons if you mark the side pocket casting and apron with a piece of masking tape and a pencil line it will make putting the aprons back in place a breeze.

Remember the aprons on a GC 1 are fitted into a channel on the edge of the rail and are removed by loosening the corner brackets (behind the corner pockets on the aprons) and removing the strap on the under skirting from the frame.

Everything else is straight forward as Glen described. One other thing the ball storage box has screws that go into the frame horizontally and some have additional screws going into the rail at an angle in the top of the ball storage box.

Hope this helps.

Good luck
Jay
