Moving a GC IV

A friend of mine is going to be moving his GC IV into a basement with a tight staircase with turns. He asked me today if the frame of the GC comes apart at the side pockets and if there are any other long parts that he will need to worry about making through the tight space. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks
 
I will let a mechanic give you all the details, but the table must come apart. Take the skirts off first. If you try to lift with these they will break. Then remove the three slates, then take off the bolts that hold the frame to the legs. Then you can move it and put it back together. It is really pretty easy to do.

Take advantage of having the table apart to recover it.
 
I don't think the frame will be much of an issue since you can break that down into about as many pieces as you want. The longest pieces will be be the side skirts (aprons). Those are table length. Not sure about the side rails, they may be table length too.

You might ask a mod to move this to the ask a mechanic forum. It will be seen by the experts faster that way.

Actually, if the frame is similar to a GC II, there will be 2 long L shaped pieces to the frame (assuming that they are similar).

Even still, if your friend can get the side skirts down, then the frame pieces should be no problem.

The fun part will be humping the 3 pieces of slate down a narrow stairway :embarrassed2:

I think they sell 2-wheeled carts for moving the slate
 
One of our forum members here, cleary, he recently installed a GCIV in a basement and I believe he had similar obstacles to endure. Perhaps he can offer you some advice. You should PM him.

You are right on.:thumbup: The side rails come as 2 pieces as well. All GC are made to be completly knocked down for easy transport...lol.
