Mr. CJ Wiley, questions and answers thread, ask what you want to know?

I'm not CJ, but I think I can help you with this. First, I'll need more info. Are we talking peg-leg or bell-bottom cords?

Regardless of that detail, I'd really advise getting a set of mechanic's coveralls, preferably used and well-worn but without holes. Not only will the wanna-be hustlers be on you like a pack of horny monkeys increasing your net, but you can carry a utility rag in your back pocket to accessorize the style and be ready for any nasal projectiles from your opponents. Best of all, you can wear them over your fancy dress bells without a care in the world.

They were bell-bottom corduroys, and had been in the family since the mid-seventies.
Also, your idea regarding coveralls has merit. They would convey that "I just fell off the turnip truck" look, that players keeps an eye out for, and the bandana would be perfect for any future booger attacks. Thanks Bob. :)

OF COURSE Bob's idea has merit, Tramp. Do you think that Billiards Digest lets just anyone have a column?

Use a mild detergent and lightly wipe.

Okay, CJ. I can see that with over thirty-six hundred views of this thread, you are a man who can answer questions.
So tell me. How do you get snot out of corduroy?
This question is pool related because they're the pants I play One Pocket in. You're prompt attention to this matter is appreciated. :)

As with all cotton fabrics, wash your corduroy gear in lukewarm or cold water. Use a mild detergent and lightly wipe.

I've never been paid for a streaming video or TV match

Hi Mr. CJ Wiley,

It's actually pretty surreal and awesome that I have the ability to ask a question or two of a world renowned Champion. My two questions are not meant to offend in any way or manner, but an old local Pro told me two things (we'll call them myths) when I mentioned TOI and I wanted to try it out for myself.

1) Have you ever 'stiffed' a person who claims he beat you in your own room in TX? I believe the amount mentioned was near or at 10K. I will find the name of this person for you. I'd like to debunk it.

2) Is it true that at the inception and introduction of TAR, it was a tournament style of play and you were the only player (or one of very few) that asked to be paid for your waiver to be filmed and televised, while everyone else just signed one?

Thank you,

Taemin

Who was this person, what were we supposedly playing for and what game were we playing? Was there a "settlement" made or offered?

I've not been paid for a streaming video or TV match, and didn't know that was even an option. I've also not been paid for a waiver and didn't know you could charge to sign one.

I just did a radio interview yesterday for a show out of Kansas City.

I got a question for Mr Wiley.

When am I gonna get that interview?

Ray

Sure, I just did a radio interview yesterday for a show out of Kansas City. We talked a while back about doing one which I'm fine with either over the phone or in person on video.

It's either one or the other to make any shot on the table.

CJ,

This may seem like a silly question but what do you do when you set up to a shot that is a good distance from the pocket & 'the shot line' IS the actual CTE alignment? This happend quite a bit today & I found myself looking to shoot it with TOI but 'real eyesed' that if I did, I would probably mis the shot. So... I just shot most of them with a center hit on the CBor a littl e bit of outside. I quess my question is, do you 'aim' back toward center so you can then hit them with the TOI?

Thanks in advance & Best Regards,

If CTE alignment makes you feel like it won't go in, then it's CTC alignment. It's either one or the other to make any shot on the table.

an uncanny coincidence

thats kinda interesting my middle name is "A", dont stand for anything or mean anything, just a letter they put on my birth certificate. So i'm "EA", funny your the only person i have ever known or even met who had a middle initial that didnt have a meaning. Once flying to Florida I met a guy in his 90's this was in 89, his first time flying-his name was SJ Brown-I asked him what the SJ was, he said his parents didnt know what to name him so they chose SJ, he was born in the 1890's.

so I had met a 2 initial guy with no meaning, but util just now never a middle initial that is just there and not a name, CJ works good,

take care "J", i'll talk to you later "A"......:)

This is an uncanny coincidence. :)

I do have kicking systems, not specifically that uses deflection/veer

Dear CJ, what cue or cues have you used in the past as your everyday player? What cue or cues are you playing with now? My best cue was always a Bludworth Cue that I played with in 3 ESPN World Finals with.....I also used a Jenson Cue, and had my own line of McDermott cues, as well as a Kruger, a Mike Sigel, and a Libra Cue.
Do use a jump cue? yes, made by Dan Tull in Olathe Kansas What's your view on racking systems such as the magic rack, jump cues/synthetic tips and recent era tournament pay outs compared to 15-20 years ago? they are all negative factors
Do you have a kicking system for TOI? I do have kicking systems, not specifically that uses deflection/veer

Thanks for your input
Sorry for the compound questionnaire but I'd figure it would save us all some time by asking all at once
Rob.M

My answers are in red.

I did shoot dice with him several times though.

Did you ever play Hack?

Are you speaking of Hack McCusky from Kirksville Missouri? No, we never played pool, I did shoot dice with him several times though.

Is this question really coming from "Mr. Bond"......Mr. James Bond?

I was named after a distant relative Kit Carson (an old west "straight shooter"), the J stands for nothing but J, just so I could be called "CJ" was the info I got and it turns out it's true.

Carson J Wiley ... and as funny as it seems I hardly ever used my real name on the road, it was always "Mike," "Chris," "Butch," but rarely Carson.

One of the most popular people on the planet also had a no-meaning J middle name... till he found out what the full one was.

That's funny. I named my youngest son Curtis James because I wanted to call him CJ. It left him the option of dropping his uninteresting surname and go with his first and middle name as his cool stage name when he grew up to be a famous jazz saxophone player like I hoped he'd become.

Alas, it ended up we never once called him CJ, and he grew up with zero interest in the sax, or playing any other musical instrument.

BTW my next door neighbor as a kid was Steve Carson, and his dad was also directly related to Kit Carson. Small world, eh? Or else, that Kit guy was a pretty busy little bugger.

Does that mean you won't have any grandchildren??

Oh wait, misread that....

Ha, ha!

Well, knowing that kid I probably got several I'll never know about. I got two from his big sister, a girl 6 and a boy just about to turn three. They watched the one-hole with us on Saturday until bedtime, and little Ethan got pretty excited about it.

"I yike doz guys hitting da balls, just yike Papa's poo' table."

Can't wait until he's old enough to see over the rails.

your timing must be perfect

CJ,

What took you so long to teach ME the truth about TOI?

Don't answer. I don't really care. All I care about is that I finally got it.

Thanks Again,

"If timing is everything and everything is perfect then your timing must be perfect"

Glad you received the TOI, it was "just a matter of time".

glad I didn't end up with the name "Kit".

Yes, there is 7 degrees of connection. I don't know much about Kit Carson, just glad I didn't end up with the name "Kit".

Thread Hijack!!

Great that they show interest in it, this is mine at 8 http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=4129871&postcount=56, he is 13 now and LOVES to play. A few weeks ago when he fished 7th in a tournament, beating the guy in the picture 3-1 (Mazin Shooni, a pro 3c player) http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=4124771&postcount=1

Good luck with them in the future, hope they grow up strong and with a good eye for cut shots hehe.

End of Thread Hijack, sorry CJ :-)

I think Hack beat St. Louie Louie one time and really did play very well

yep thats him. ty for answer.

I played a lot of pool in my earlier years at the Bass Pro Shop in Kirksville Mo. Bud Milton had a small place with fishing in the front, pool hall in the middle and archery on the far end room. I played with a guy named Max, and another man that owned a construction co. named Frank McColivich, Hack also came around and had a "legendary status" around Kirksville.

I think Hack beat St. Louie Louie one time and really did play very well. People talked of seeing him run up to 7 racks in a row on a regulation table, and he also was a big gambler so big money made him play better ( I would think anyway).

Those were some great days in my pool development, between the ages of 15 and 17.....tell all the players in Kirksville "hi" for me when you get a chance, I will stop by that area when I get a chance and Green City Mo. is where I grew up. There's nothing like those small towns, they're a great place to grow up imo.
