Sunday afternoon, Mike was in town to do a small show, so I thought it might be fun for my son to see.

We've all watched the tapes and enjoyed them and the idea of getting to meet him sounded like fun for him.

They had sort of a raffle going, in which you might get to play against him for the crowd.
5$ a ticket. Got a couple, put my boy's name on them.

Well, he was drawn to play.
Mike was being pretty cool with the kids, shooting against them one handed.

Mike was down to the 8 and left it on the rail, 6 inches from the pocket.
My boy made a good show of it. Had the whole place cheering for him as he made his shots. He'd gotten the rack down to one ball and miscued.

By Grace, that ball banked and parked itself between the 8 and the pocket, with the cue ball down table, hooking Mike. Everyone was cheering :D

Mike shot and managed to get that 8 to roll in with the 2 which had blocked him. I thought for sure my boy had him beat.

Mike won the game with no balls left on the table against my 11 year old son :)

I couldn't imagine a more proud moment!

We were just enjoying the show and Mike asked my son to come back in and help him with one of the tricks he was doing. He set it up and had him shoot his "butterfly". One stroke and they all fell.

A few signed items from Mike and a couple of picture later, Man, what a fine afternoon!

There was a photographer for a local magazine there and she said his pictures should be in the next issue :)

Dave<---- VERY Proud Papa.

Did he do his finger pool? That always amazes me. And his power draw shot is pretty cool.

What a wonderful memory, Mr. Wilson! It is easy to see why Mike Massey is considered the ambassador of pool. Everywhere he goes, he puts a smile on people's faces. Must have been a fascinating experience for your son! :)

BTW, where did this happen in good old Maryland?

I've never been. That's Shaun Wilkie's neck of the woods! :p

The Billiard Club Sport Bar & Grill must be quite a nice spot to host a Mike Massey exhibition! Sounds like he really put on a great show! :)

Shaun was in a tournament in Jersey, but his Grandfather was there. I got introduced to him.

For all I gather, Robin Dodson will be doing a show in the ( near ? ) future.

They have a very nice club there, which I hope grows.

I agree Mr. Masse puts on a incredible show. Saw him at All Star Billiards in Frederick MD thie past Sunday night. There was well over 100 people there to watch the show. They drew names to play him, he played im guessing between 10-15 people. A few beat him and won a free video. He set up trick shots for audience members to shoot they all made them. He did his routine of trick shots including the boot shot. The finger pool is absolutely amazing i cant believe how much spin he can get on the ball. He sang a song not to bad if you like county gospel, not my cup of tea. Here are some pictures from last years performance at All Star Billiards. These are not mine i found them while searching the net

Yep, Mike will be at Champions in Laurel Sunday. I'm going! (I get to play him too  ) :)

My son and I had the same experience several years ago. My son was eight at the time and is now 20. Mike was doing an exhibition in my home town of Mount Vernon, WA. The night before the exhibition my son and I had watched the Color Of Money. There is a scene in the movie where Tom Cruise offered to give his opponent $20.00 if he won and if Tom won the guy didn't have to pay anything. Mike had brought a box of his video "Massey Shots" to sell at the show. My son, Ryan, remembered the scene from the movie and asked Mike if he wanted to play a set of 9-ball race to three. Ryan said that if Mike won he got nothing and if Ryan won he would get a copy of the video. Mike laughed and accepted the bet and Ryan won the set three games to two. Mike signed the video and posed for pictures. We still have the tape. Mike had arrived at the pool hall around noon and was still going strong when we left at 10:00 pm. Mike played everyone in the house that wanted to play, did his show, and his amazing finger pool exhibition. In addition to all that he performed some great card tricks. By far the best pool show we had ever seen before or since. And finallly, Ryan and I ran into Mike last year and he said that he still remembered the bet. We still have some great memories of that day.
