Sunday afternoon, Mike was in town to do a small show, so I thought it might be fun for my son to see.
We've all watched the tapes and enjoyed them and the idea of getting to meet him sounded like fun for him.
They had sort of a raffle going, in which you might get to play against him for the crowd.
5$ a ticket. Got a couple, put my boy's name on them.
Well, he was drawn to play.
Mike was being pretty cool with the kids, shooting against them one handed.
Mike was down to the 8 and left it on the rail, 6 inches from the pocket.
My boy made a good show of it. Had the whole place cheering for him as he made his shots. He'd gotten the rack down to one ball and miscued.
By Grace, that ball banked and parked itself between the 8 and the pocket, with the cue ball down table, hooking Mike. Everyone was cheering
Mike shot and managed to get that 8 to roll in with the 2 which had blocked him. I thought for sure my boy had him beat.
Mike won the game with no balls left on the table against my 11 year old son
I couldn't imagine a more proud moment!
We were just enjoying the show and Mike asked my son to come back in and help him with one of the tricks he was doing. He set it up and had him shoot his "butterfly". One stroke and they all fell.
A few signed items from Mike and a couple of picture later, Man, what a fine afternoon!
There was a photographer for a local magazine there and she said his pictures should be in the next issue
