mushroom tip

I have a moori medium tip and it is beginning to mushroom, do I have to take it to a cue person, or is there a way I can work on it to get it back even with the ferrule, thanks

Take it to a repair guy to cut it down on the lathe. The tip is conforming to the way you strike the cueball. I put morri tips on all of my cues as a standard option.

it needs to be shaped on a lathe

using a razor. Do not use those pocket mushroom trimmers unless you want to ruin that Moori tip. The laminated tips break apart easily using those twist type tools.

Thanks for the advice, I will take it to my repair guy, what would be a fair amount to pay for just cleaning up the mushroom part of the tip?

If I put the tip on, I don't charge for fixing a mushroom, otherwise, $5
That is pretty much my policy also. Get the guy who put it on to trim it down.

I've never charged anyone to trim a mushroom nor to shape a tip, even if someone else put it on. Only takes a few seconds and creates a little good will. It does irritate me though when a guy comes in with a new tip, which he had just installed, and wants me to trim to fit and shape. I've had this happen more than once.

I can understand your frustrations, I would be too embarrassed to buy from one guy and then asked another guy to shape it up for me, I would never do that, at least I would pay the second guy. I did call my cue guy and he said bring it by, no cost, he is a really nice guy to deal with here in the Detroit area, California John is his name.

tell the guy to trim it to a slight cone shape this time.when it mushrooms it will be right.also you should try Kamuis, they don't mushroom, spin the ball more and hold chalk better longer.the med soft is comparable in feel to a Morri med.

I always give my customers free maintainence if I install the tip. I tell the if it mushrooms bring it back and I will trim it up no charge. Very little time involved and it's just customer service to me. ;)

thanks, plus you get more business, I am taking it over today, then I am having him take a 13mm shaft down to 12.7, so you can always attract business, if you give good customer service.

I've never had a layered tip mushroom on me...ever

I've never had a Moori that never mushroomed myself. It's not a lot but enough to bother many players, myself included. One trim takes care of it, but. I like Talisman tips myself. No mushrooming, no flattening of the crown and no miscues. I think they would be the perfect tip EXCEPT. There always seems to be an except in everything. Talisman has a delaminating problem. They have greatly improved this problem but, in my experience after putting on thousands of them, they still delaminate more than any of the other popular layered tips. If they could get that problem, which is a real problem, corrected, I believe they would be the perfect tip.
