Hey, Danny, did you watch the Mosconi Cup this year? Were you a Team USA member on the Mosconi Cup sometime ago? I would love to read your thoughts about the Mosconi Cup.![]()
Hi JAM, I have no thoughts on the Mosconi Cup except that it amazes me that they have not changed the format to Ten ball. I have no idea as the nine ball promotes the soft break, i still enjoy rotation pool but not 9 ball - with any rack device. Plus the Mosconi Cup is a political invite deal which leaves a pungent aroma of who you know and not how well you play. Not saying that it was not a great team for USA but I just think the players should be chosen based off a ranking system - and this would involve a functioning tour here in the states TEN BALL that is. Mosconi was without a doubt one of the best Straight Pool players to live and I think the event should be held to a higher standard than that of 9 ball in honor of his accomplishments. To compete at a game where 95% of it involves knowing how to read the rack ( as if it were a trick shot contest to make the corner ball makes American pool look bad.) There is a group of traditionalists that cling to nine ball with a white knuckle grip - similar to Zimmerman with his guns, this will soon be dismantled I hope. I will stand my ground on this' - as I have strong feelings on the subject, watching top players argue like a constant due to the inevitable corner ball problem associated with the nine ball rack is not my idea of how pocket billiards should be played. One poster on here got angry with me cause he asked where are all the Americans for the Canada's nine ball tour and I responded that the game should be Ten Ball. He later sent me a PM saying that he agreed that the game should be Ten ball also but that I should not attempt to discredit the Canada's nine ball tour - I think he was probl'y a promoter and not much of a player - he will eventually have to make up his mind on which he chooses to be. Again under any format the person who racks 9 ball has way too much control over the corner ball, I have a power house break playing ten ball when it's working and I cannot stand to see the soft cut break they use in todays 9 brawl tournaments. One thing is for sure it makes American pool look terribly redundant and after all you asked so there is my rant.
