I can't type that with a straight face.. :) I am aways asked what cues I have and seriously there are two or three cues that I would never part with. But I consider all the cues that I have moved as parts of my collection over the years.

But here are the pics of the cues I plan on keeping. Only the Palmer could be pryed from my hands...

Gus / Randy Andersen / Palmer / modified MCDermott ED-5 break / jump / bar sneaky pete, Chargers edition.

I hope to add a cue or two in the future....

Was posting during the crash before.. hope this comes out

That Szamboti is the nuts player cue! It looks like a Balabushka. I'm curious why the leather wrap has a distinct line near the forearm? That cue has some patina, they get better with age and use. Its my kind of cue.
 
Well the cue was refinished and the wrap redyed by Barry in 1998/99. What happened was the buzz ring area held the dye. The cue looked great after the application but wore off very fast. I think with the oil that the wrap probably picked up after 23 years of play, it just won't take the new dye.

It is a wrap that Gus told my uncle was from Balabushka. He put it on every bit as good as George did his wraps. My uncle was 17 when he got the cue from Gus. It was the first of 4, but the only one he ever kept as a player. He went through 2 sets of shafts from Gus.

Balabushka Leather

What secret did Balabushka have with his leather? When I show people my Bushka with a leather wrap, nobody can believe it. They ask what it is, and when I say leather, they just freak out. Its so smooth, I've never seen leather work like it on any other cue. Why can't anybody replicate what George did with leather?

I seen this question and can give you an answer how to replicate it. George's cues were probably more of just years of oily hands etc... Though he may have spun it in a lathe as well, only he knows I guess.
But you can replicate it by getting smooth leather or smooth kangaroo on the cue, and run it in a lathe with 1000 and 2000 grit sand paper, and then buff, polish back out. Or buy some with this having already been done... The sanding actually even helps get the dyes further into the leather. Even smooth leather can have some grain, so it is just a matter of sanding it out with some very fine sand paper.
I would be crap on putting leather on a cue, but have worked on a lot of leather on other things...
 
Palmer Model J Variation?

Could you provide some info on the Palmer? It appears to be a Model J but without decoration.

Its a model 16 from the third catalog without inlays. It has actual Palmer joint caps out of the pearl plastic.

Obviously a formidable set of cues.

You note the Andersen. It's a seriously hansdom cue, and you like how it plays.

I dig the looks of the Andersen...I really do...but I have a feeling that if I got my hands on the Gus you couldn't pry them off.... :wink:

Both cues play very solid. Gus' needs no endorsement from me, the first time I chalked it, a year after my uncle passed, I won 2500. So the cue and I will not likely part. The Andersen is just a great playing cue, but so is the Charger cue and IMHO the Charger cue might give some more well known cues the 7....
