I finally got word that he is okay...hoping to speak to him in about an hour and maybe ask about my grandmother. This has been a horrible experience of worry and wait. He doesn't have power, but his office finally has a phone.

That certainly is a relief and wonderful news for you, Shorty!

I watch the TV in horror and cannot imagine how some of these fine folks are surviving without the basic amenities that we all take for granted at times.

Keith and I cleaned our closets yesterday and have come up with three very large bags of clothes that don't fit us anymore which we are donating to the Hurricane Relief effort here in D.C. [Keith was a 31-32 when I met him, and now he's a 38-32] Ain't love grand!? :p

Some folks who lost EVERYTHING from Katrina are being bussed up here to the D.C. Armory as a temporary shelter until permanent housing can be found. I cannot think of a better use of these clothes. There are quite a few very nice shirts, size medium, with pool logos on them from our travels.

I urge everyone to give whatever they can afford to: http://www.redcross.org

Even one dollar, if received from every American citizen, will go a very long way to helping our neighbors to the South reconstruct their lives! :)

Yes, please! There are donation collection centers in just about every town in the country by now. If you have old clothes that are clean and in good condition (warm-weather clothes), shoes (sneakers), etc. they will be needed. As far as food and dry-goods, etc, what seemes to really be needed right now is:

Bottled water (gallons as well as the small bottles)

gatoraid

ready-to-eat foods. Things that don't have to be cooked..especially things like granola bars, cheese crackers, pop-tarts and that sort of thing.

new underwear (for kids and adults)

new socks (for kids and adults)

diapers

feminine products (sanitary napkins, tampons)

deodorant, soap, shampoo, disposable razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste

Aspirin, tylenol

cash

If you can donate a few hours out of your day maybe one or two days a week, volunteers are needed at many of these collection sites, too.

This is the worst natural disaster to ever hit the U.S. The loss of life, livelihood and homes is absolutely unbelieveable devastating. The loss of life in New Orleans alone is going to be staggering once the numbers are released....in the thousands of people. I've heard an unofficial number from Slidell, which I won't repeat because it IS unofficial....suffice to say it is a very large number for a small town.

These folks will not be able to recover without help.

- That is funny JAM. When I met my wife in 2000 I was all of 155 lbs. 5 years, marriage, 1 baby later I'm pushing 177 and it AIN'T muscle..LOL. Love is great! Good on you and Keith for making your donation!

I ain't buying that Ron Thomas dude LOL...because...

The Schick may be my new playing cue. I got to hit with it about 2 hours last night, and I love it. It's a tad butt heavy, but really is nice and provides a good feel. I may change the tip out to Moori, as I seem to prefer them. Something about them holding chalk better for me.

Anyway, my dad says he got power back on Thursday and my grandmother is fine and she got power back on Wednesday. He said his place did okay, just a piece of tin came off the front porch of the trailor. Grandma is fine though. He said some gas stations are open with gas, just incredibly long lines. Sounds like town is doing okay...but still under martial law, with orders to shoot to kill if anyone is caught looting or trying to loot.

As far as I know, my mom still does not have power and it may be a while because dad says they are repairing main lines first, and then doing residence lines. She had a tree snap the line of power going to her house is the thing.

Anyway, thanks for well wishes, and I also encourage people to donate time or money to the Red Cross.

That's good to hear shorty. With so much desperarity in the news, It's nice to hear some good news, and that they are alright.

We will be making a donation to red cross at the little women's work. Wish we could donate more, but hopefully every little bit will count. I just wish I was able to be there first hand helping people on the ground level with My chain saws a blazing, but If I did that I would probably be in need of donations Myself to help pay the bills, and finish fixing Our place from last year. This thing has effected so many people on so many levels that It's almost un-imaginable, and going to take alot of people at ground level just to help those who are lucky enough to still have their home, much less the huge task of rebuilding for others.
Just watching It on the news is stressfull enough, and I had to limit Myself from watching anymore. can only imagine what so many people are going through right now. When I heard of what some people were doing to their fellow man & women, made me want to load up a few pieces and go to try and help protect them. It was discusting to hear how some choose to make an aready life changing situation even worse for others. I guess I'm old fassioned, and like to believe that everyone is united in this country, but seems too many people just have their own agenda these days, or just plain can't control their own insanity, without harming others. Thank God We still have some good people in this country that choose to help the less fortunate, instead of making It worse, and more tramatic for them. Each and everyone a hero in their own way, because it comes from the heart.

Well Shorty both you folks is O.K., and that is good news. Case or no Case that is Up to You. But you Schick deserves a nice home.....

Speaking of Donations to Hurricane Relief. I understand our Men’s Pool Club has decided to try, and get each member to Write A Check for $100.00 to the Salvation Army, and send it down to The Salvation Arm headquarters in the effected Area.

Hopefully most of the Members will write a Check, as they are planning on Collecting Em, Tue., Wed., and Thur. this week with the money going out of Friday.... ;)
