My DCC Weekend

Sweet Marissa

www.Bella-Muse.com
I had a great time, though I was only there for the last weekend. I flew in Friday afternoon. I visited the AZ room for a moment, and met a few AZers, then wandered around checking out the vendors and some matches. I saw Chris Szuter in his match, and also got to watch Jeanette Lee. This was my first time seeing her play, and I must say her pictures don't do her beauty justice.

Saturday, I was up early to be able to help with the IPT Qualifier, which was a great experience and a lot of fun. I was surprised to see how many players were late for the players meeting. Does anyone know why Sparky Ferrell never showed? There were some great matches, though there were quite a few underdogs that did better than some expected. My picks to win were Alex Pagulayan and Thomas Engert, so I was half right.

I also watched some of the nine-ball finals, including Efren and Johnny. One question came up: Efren shot, and the ball hung up in the pocket. By the time Johnny approached the table, the ball fell. I've forgotten, but does anyone remember if a ball hangs in the pocket, then drops, how long does it have to hang before it's put back up on the table? In any event, the ball stayed pocketed, and Efren continued to shoot.

Sunday, I played some nine-ball in the tournament room, across from the IPT finals. Those were some of the tightest tables I've played on in a while, but how I love those Diamonds! I both got some great tips on stance and breaking from Charlie Bryant. Then we watched the guys one-up each other with their trick shots lol Everyone was talking about how their break/technique was the best.

It was so great meeting some of the people I see on here, though I can't name everyone since there were so many and I would hate to leave anyone out. It's sad when you recognise people by their avatar rather than their name, or even screenname lol Thanks to all for a great time! What a great start to the new year!

Hanging ball rule

The normal hanging ball rule is 3 seconds. If it falls in 3
seconds, it is good. If longer, it is put back up.
But what is funny is, I have never seen anyone on a
hanging ball start counting off the seconds, they all just
guess.

I thought it was a 5 second rule... kind of like when you drop your cookie on the ground!

It was nice to meet you Marissa! I'll have to see if Dianna puts that picture up of all of you, her and me... otherwise I may scan it and post it! :p

Marissa,

It was nice meeting you. Like you I met so many people I can never remember all their names and user ids. ME and Sean finally got to play some on friday and saturday night and those tables were very tough. I hated to hear you could not find an earlier flight home but it is good to hear that you found something to pass the time. Hopefully we will run into you there next year. Till then....

I've always used a 5 second rule and someone usually DOES start counting when the ball has rolled to a stop on the lip and is being held up by air....Where's Bob Jewett when we need him?

Hey Marissa.

Nice seeing you again. I'll probably run into you in Atlanta in a couple of weeks.

Here is the rule ...

This is out of the general BCA rules:

(Please note to yourself that up to 4
seconds is okay, when it reaches 5 or more,
the ball is replaced back)

30. BALLS MOVING SPONTANEOUSLY. If a ball shifts, settles, turns or otherwise moves "by itself," the ball shall remain in the position it assumed and play continues. A hanging ball that falls into a pocket "by itself" after being motionless for 5 seconds or longer shall be replaced as closely as possible to its position prior to falling, and play shall continue.

If an object ball drops into a pocket "by itself" as a player shoots at it, so that the cue ball passes over the spot the ball had been on, unable to hit it, the cue ball and object ball are to be replaced to their positions prior to the stroke, and the player may shoot again. Any other object balls disturbed on the stroke are also to be replaced to their original positions before the shooter replays.

I have always heard and played..........

Once the incoming player approaches the table to shoot - If the ball falls in - It spots back up.
Before then, it stays down and the player who shot it continues to shoot.

That is my story and I'm sticking to it!

In other words, the rule is 5 seconds. That's what I said. It's not 3 seconds or 4 seconds, but FIVE seconds. I'm glad we cleared that up... Doug

How about this scenario OHB....I was playing little Andy one time and he shot at a nine ball combo using the bridge. The nine ball hung up in the pocket, and he slammed the bridge to the playing surface. I don't know if it was 3 seconds or 5 seconds or whatever, but the nine fell in when he slammed the bridge. Whenever my opponent slams the table with their hands or stick, I always tell them not to rock the boat! I should try to remember to tell them before we start playing that balls pocketed under those circumstances will not be allowed.

It is very hard to cover all bases and rules pertaining to all scenarios. I really don't like the 3 or 5 second timer because that is too exact. It is unlikely that dropping a crutch on the table would make a ball fall in - but I guess it could happen.

I can understand it is hard to imagine a ball falling because the table was hit, but if you saw you would understand, it was bang - bang. It may have sounded like whining, but if you knew me you'd know that if I get beat, my opponent gets a handshake, the money and usually an offer to play the next day. In other words, you won't get many excuses from me, but what happenned with the crutch wasn't right.

I was watching a couple of pros on the FPT play and that was the decision they came to and replaced the ball.

At the recent Derby Efren was matching up with someone and he shot a combo in his hole The first ball went in and then the second object ball hung up in his hole and then after 2 beats it dropped. He looked at the guy and pointed to the ball and the opponent agreed that the ball should be respotted. If it wasnt there would be no second shot. (Well for any ordinary person). If it was me I wouldnt have respotted the ball. But who is going to question EFREN.
