I had a great time, though I was only there for the last weekend. I flew in Friday afternoon. I visited the AZ room for a moment, and met a few AZers, then wandered around checking out the vendors and some matches. I saw Chris Szuter in his match, and also got to watch Jeanette Lee. This was my first time seeing her play, and I must say her pictures don't do her beauty justice.
Saturday, I was up early to be able to help with the IPT Qualifier, which was a great experience and a lot of fun. I was surprised to see how many players were late for the players meeting. Does anyone know why Sparky Ferrell never showed? There were some great matches, though there were quite a few underdogs that did better than some expected. My picks to win were Alex Pagulayan and Thomas Engert, so I was half right.
I also watched some of the nine-ball finals, including Efren and Johnny. One question came up: Efren shot, and the ball hung up in the pocket. By the time Johnny approached the table, the ball fell. I've forgotten, but does anyone remember if a ball hangs in the pocket, then drops, how long does it have to hang before it's put back up on the table? In any event, the ball stayed pocketed, and Efren continued to shoot.
Sunday, I played some nine-ball in the tournament room, across from the IPT finals. Those were some of the tightest tables I've played on in a while, but how I love those Diamonds! I both got some great tips on stance and breaking from Charlie Bryant. Then we watched the guys one-up each other with their trick shots lol Everyone was talking about how their break/technique was the best.
It was so great meeting some of the people I see on here, though I can't name everyone since there were so many and I would hate to leave anyone out. It's sad when you recognise people by their avatar rather than their name, or even screenname lol Thanks to all for a great time! What a great start to the new year!
