Hey Guys, I just got my DPK back from SW Cues. They were restoring it and authenticating it for me... It got a new wrap and new pin and they refinished one of the shafts... Tell me what you think...

I posted the story about this cue in a previous post, but didnt have pics... I bought it from a collector who sold it to me as a SW, thus I had the case custom made...

Laurie told me that it was actually made by David Kersenbrock after she examinied it...

Sweet cue and case. I always admired dpk cues and justis cases. First class all the way.

I'm glad you had Laurie authenticate it. Not to play Monday morning quarterback, and not to say I'm any kind of authority, but it doesn't look like a Southwest to me.

Something Laurie has said many times, though the collector market doesn't seem to want to acknowledge it was the David Kersenbrock never made cues at Southwest. So, there's really no such thing as a "Kersenbrock Southwest." I believe he did some inlay work, on some Southwests, but that's it. Southwest also had sent cues to David to get finished, but that's it as well. A Southwest is a Southwest. Though I'm sure a Southwest that was touched or licked by Kersenbrock I suppose might have some special meaning to some collectors.

Its not a Southwest...

It is a Kersenbrock... I had the case made before I found out... The dealer collector who sold it to me sold it as "Franklin Era SW"... Tommy Karabostos (sp) was a previous owner and he verified that he had owned it, but he thought it was a SW as well... Kinda like the telephone game, misinformation got attached to this cue and people selling it just passed it along... I could tell however that it was a quality cue and was willing to take the chance...

That is why I sent it to Laurie. I had serious doubts as to whether it was a SW as well... She removed the wrap and due to some sort of workmanship distinctive to DPK was able to verify the cue was in fact a kersenbrock...

I am glad that it worked out in my favor.

I don't know what price to put on it... It plays better than any cue I have ever owned. It is like an extension of my arm... It does everything I tell it to... I just wish that sometimes I knew what to tell it... LOL

Its really not on the market... I would have to be wowed with an offer to sell it.

Fred -

Thanks, I didnt know that. Would a DK cue be worth more or less or about the same?

More or less then what?? If you mean more then a SW the answer is yes. Anything else and I don't think you understood Fred or I missed the question. DPK cues hold a premium early ones, Omega's and his current stuff all sell very well. That cue we are talking about would sell for $3,000-$4,500 range.

Sorry I thought I was clear.

That's a big part, like everything else, supply and demand is king. It's not to say one cue is better then the other or plays better, it's just there are many more SW's out there and DPK's aren't easy to find, and just as this story shows many aren't presented in the right way, many people think what they have are SW's when they are DPK's and many older SW's are marketed as DPK's for the apparent reasons.

Not sure if you can read, but here is the letter...

There will now be a flood of crap cues on EBAY for sale with a letter of authenticity from SW.

Didn't think

Sorry, I didn't think... I pulled the image from the thread... hopefully no scammers got a hold of it... I also pulled the text of the letter.

Yeah right, should you sell a DPK...

I don't know what price to put on it... It plays better than any cue I have ever owned. It is like an extension of my arm... It does everything I tell it to... I just wish that sometimes I knew what to tell it... LOL

Ok. If you are not sure what to do, let me help you out a little bit...DON'T YOU DARE SELL THAT DAMN CUE!!! :D Dude, do you know how hard it is to get one of his cues today? And if you were able too, you'd be out $15,000, that's how much it'd cost you if you wanted a DPK today!

Trust me, I called his shop and spoke to his apprentice, a cat by the name of Ed Young. I thought I heard him wrong at first, I was so sticker shocked! :p Hell, that's one reason why it plays so damn good...it's a Kersenbrock! Seriously, all jokes aside, if you don't have to get rid of it...don't. Just MHO, FYI, and two cents. :p :D

I really had no intention of selling it... I know it will go up in value and already has considerable value... Thanks JimBo for laying out what price range you thought it would go for... I was thinking that if I sold it I wouldn't let it go for less than $2,800...

I really would have a hard time selling it for anything as I love this cue.
