My Experience with Pixie from Singapore

I do not usually do this kind of post here, because I always feel that a transaction should be a private matter.

I purchased a cue from Pixie, who is located in the Singapore.

I asked him to use FedEx to ship me the cue, and he did. I received the cue, and there were only three shafts sitting in the tube.

I emailed Pixie, and he was very quick in his response telling me that he did send me the whole cue. Needless to say, I had problem beliving that since all I could see were three shafts.

Later on, I was informed that the butt was held by US Wildlife in Alaska.

Pixie kept very close attention to how he could help me during the whole process. After a month has gone by, he still PM and emailed me to check on how things were going with the butt.

I called the cue maker, and called the officer who confiscated my cue and the whole process went on for more than two months. Pixie did not just take my money and forget about me, mind you, I almost gave up on the cue myself; but Pixie did not.

After getting a lot of help from a lot of people, finally, the officer in Wildlife agreed to send the cue back to me with a penalty.

Pixie offered to split half the penalty with me.

I know a lot of members here are a bit hesitant in buying from outside of the US, especially from Asia. But my experience with Pixie makes me believe Pixie is a guy you can be comfortable dealing with. He went far and above and beyond to make sure I am satisfied.

If everything goes smoothly in a deal, it is not that difficult to make a customer happy; but I truly believe it shows the real character of a dealer when things do not work out well.

In my case, the custom issue was very tricky and difficult, not to mention time consuming. Most sellers would have just said "well, too bad" and move on.

Pixie never gave up and he did everything he could to assist me in helping me to get my cue back. His outstanding customer service went beyond the expected duty of a seller.

I would highly recommend Pixie to the buyers here on the forum. In my opinion, his customer service is top notch, and he is very trustworthy and dependable.

Thank you.

I would love to know the reason the cue was held? I will understand if you wish to keep the story private but if you can PLEASE share some particulars as to why they confiscated it... Hat's off to Pixie!!

Yes, the cue was confiscated because it featured ivory inlays. When I purchased the cue, I was under the impression that it was to be shipped from the US. The seller was fluent in English, and there was no indication that he was located in the Singapore.
What the officer in Wildlife told me was that if I were to use the cue as my personal cue, which I am, I can obtain some paperwork from the US so I can take the cue in and out of the US without any problem. To have the cue imported into the Singapore would require again some other paperwork, and so on. I did not want to do anything illegal since I have my own compnay and we do lots of import/export. So, I have filled out all the required paperwork and now everything is fine.
I also found out that FedEx is not a good idea because it will be imported into the US via Alsaka. It is better to use EMS, which route through San Fan, when buying from Asia.
Since this incident, I saw that Pixie has included the info that he will ship from the Singapore.
Hope this helps,
Richard

Thanks for the follow up. I had heard that ivory could cause problems with international shipping but was unaware that it was possible to do so with the correct documentation.
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
The officer I talked to was a really nice guy, he explained everything to me in great details, and he sent me stacks of documents to read. He did not have to even answer my phone, because he really was not obligated to give me back my cue.
I feel very fortunate really.

Has anyone ever run into this problem with a cue shipped into Canada? If so, which mail carrier/express service was used?

(I could be wrong Richard but from reading your message it seems to imply it went to your USA address)

Are you saying then that if we go in and out of the US, especially to Asia, with our personal playing cues that contain ivory, that they may be confiscated if we don't have paperwork???

I am planning on playing in the McDermott Asian games in Korea in July. Should I be worried?

Hi Linda,
I am no expert in laws regarding ivory and so on. I would recommend you talking to an expert in this field if you want to be 100% sure.
I just want to share my experience here because I am very impressed with the customer service I have received from Pixie. The last thing I want to do is to mislead anyone on the forum by offering inaccurate advice.
I feel very fortunate and blessed that I can have my cue back. I know a lot of people have lost their cues forever at custom.
Regards,
Richard
