My First Custom - Ebony Merry Widow

Did you ever take some pics of the final result? Would love to see it.

Not yet... I'm still waiting on the matching Joint Protectors. They only need to be sprayed, but it was 95-100+ degrees out here all last week. Since there is no A/C in the shop, they wanted to wait until it cools down a bit to do any spraying of anything.

I'm hoping to have some nice photos of everything up by this weekend.

I've seen the final output and Mike was gracious enough to let me hit a few with it. It is one amazing cue hands down in looks and play.

I"m expecting studio quality photos here Mike. Phone cameras not allowed. :)

LOL... there will be no iPhoneography used in the making of these photos.
(not that there is anything wrong with that)

several young cuemakers seem to share a common problem.

they all make cues, beautiful, good shooting, high quality cues, that end up
flopping around on the table like a fish out of water.

you're not going to be one of those guys, are you :(

What you've posted here looks great. I'm looking forward to seeing the complete product.

I just started looking into having a cue made. Looks like Eddie does some very good work. As someone new to the forum here, is is kosher to ask about cost? Or is that something that should be reserved for a PM?

Nope... Eddie used to work under Kent Davis and currently works under, and with the assistance of, Ariel Carmeli. These are two very accomplished cue makers that put out a top shelf product.

Though Eddie may be a new maker with a nice setup of his own, he still does quite a bit of his work at Ariel's shop. There is a lot of knowledge and experience behind each one of his builds.

For the most accurate pricing information, you should always get it straight from the horse's mouth.

Feel free to shoot me a PM. I'll send you some contact information so you can get in touch with Eddie. He is pretty responsive and has always been quick to answer my questions.

Welcome to the forum, BeachBum!

PM sent. Thanks a bunch.

I would wrap it in black linen and it would be perfect..IMO.

KEN

Noted... I was kind of up in the air on the wrap and went with lizard because I really like the look. So far, so good. I like the feel of the lizard. However, if that ever changes, I may switch to something a bit more traditional. Black linen would look nice... maybe even black w/white speck...

I was thinking maybe the black with white. I had a ebony on ebony with blue veneers and it came originally with the black with white speck, and I switched it to black linen and it was great.

Nice cue either way.

Your cue inspired me.

After seeing your photos and reading your notes here I called a buddy who knows everyone in the So Cal pool scene and asked about Eddie. He gave me the thumbs up and a phone number. I met with Eddie yesterday and was very impressed with him and his work. Placed my order on the spot.

Thank you for sharing your cue here. It pointed me in the right direction for mine.

OK... As promised, although a bit tardy, photos of the finished cue are below. I hope you like it as much as I do.

314-2 Shafts with Matching Rings and Caps (I went with numbers a bit more personal than 1 and 2)

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reply in this thread, or shoot me a PM.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike,

The pictures came out perfect. Thanks for sharing.

I was at Ariel's shop so time ago and I recognize the symbols on the butt cap.
I embarrassed myself bay asking Eddie why does he have Hieroglyphics on his cues?....LOL I was quickly corrected that it was Hebrew
Eddie is a good dude I have bought tips from him in the past and met him several times in Corona & Las Vegas. As a matter of fact the last time I saw Eddie was at the Rio Hotel & Casino during the BCA Nationals.

I believe this is Eddie's AZ user name /a link:

Yep... that's him... "Zirroe" here on AZ.

That's funny about the logo. I mentioned to him that he should make a special line of "medallion" cues with a silver Dreidel in the butt cap. Ariel also had a great idea for a line of cues using the Star of David. Either way, I think that he will be sticking with the Hebrew letters for the foreseeable future. ;)

I believe he said that it is his name in Hebrew. I asked him about it when I was at his place as I come from a Jewish family as well.

You cue came out great. Love the work. Mine has been started, and I'm getting excited.

Yes... it spells "Eddie" in Hebrew.

Thanks for the kind words... I have heard some good things about a certain 6-pointer that he has in the works. ;)
