My first video...12 ball run

Great shooting Heather! You will get to that secord rack before you know it!
You are playing the rack a lot like I was when I first started playing 14.1 and even tho you are shooting great the cue ball is moving around way too much for this game. We all have that problem at the beginning because of 8 ball and 9 ball. This game is different and is ALL about getting that exact position on the next shot.

BlackjackDave gave me a lot of good advise and critiqued some of my play and that helped me a great deal. I still need more practice and experience.
My high run is still ONLY 27 so knowing what to do and doing it is not the same thing. There are so many choices early in the rack the you have to learn to play "patterns" other wise the brain frys on all the decisions.

Check out some of BlackJack's practice drills for getting on the break ball.
Those also will help you near the end of the rack.

The most important thing though is keep shooting, asking questions, applying what you learn and keep shooting and keep shooting and keep shooting....then repeat as often as necessary.

Thanks Tom...my cue ball control has alwasy been really bad lol...when i used to play 9ball the guys would get so mad during tounaments when i would accidently knock other balls in when my cue ball rolled outta control lol especially when i would knock in the 9 ball to win ( happened a few times actually tho it was sorta funny to see these grown men get so mad lol) but i have been working on it hopefully i get it under control very soon!

Ran another 14 today :) i ran it really well too...felt alot more controlled than usual! but...let myself a stupid break shot and just missed it...by like a half inch grrrr lol ah well always next time!

Thanks for all the help everyone!! all this advice is really great!

I tend to hit balls harder when i am not 100% sure i can make the shot

Isn't that counter-intuitive if you think about it? Just some food for thought, a lot of people do it.

Ideally, you want to create new "nervous ticks" if you will, that promotes better mechanics:).

if you will be in vegas in may i would be glad to help.... shoot me a pm if you will be there

The only bit of advice I can give you is before you take you first shot you need to step back and decide exactly what you want to do. Don't just decide I want to shoot this ball, then this ball and then this ball. You need to decide I want to shoot this ball and then the CB will be exactly here and then I will shoot the next ball.

You will be surprised how much easier the game will be when you decide that you don't just want to shoot this ball next, but you want to be in a certain area as well.

It will all come to you pretty quick....you've already got the basic tools to do it as I saw in your video. The mental aspect of 14.1 is what makes the game so great.

Nice work on advancing your 14.1 game in a short period of time. Also, thanks for sharing your video... it's always hard to put yourself out there for people to see but it almost always inspires others to do the same.

I also agree that you will be running in the twenties in a very short time. I am also a nobody, but just a couple of tips to help you get there. First, to work on getting shape on the break ball, start with just 4 or 5 balls on the table (place them in an easy pattern) and mentally work your way backwards from the key ball (last ball before the breakout ball) to the first ball you will pocket. Then just execute to this plan. Normally, an ideal key ball will be parallel with your break ball.

And, also, while shooting every shot, I noticed you lift your head about 2 or 3 inches just before you shoot your shots. This can potentially cause numerous stroke execution flaws. I would say just practice knowingly keeping your head in the exact same position until the cue ball stops rolling.

Keep up the good work and please keep posting your videos. I will hopefully be posting some videos soon as well (as soon as I get a good camcorder).

Again, thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much everyone! I really appreciate all the help and all the comments! I promise i will take all the advice and use it!

My best run of the year so far. It went like this. Playing my arch enemy, Half-Fast Larry on my son's 9 ft. CG. I won the lag, Larry broke and left me a shot, I ran 7. Larry ran 4 and missed. I took the last 3 balls and left a good break shot. I made it and ran the rack for a total of 17. I left a pretty good break shot again but I missed it.

so a total run of 20? for some reason i seem to get my high runs from the less than traditional break shots.

great job! i havent been doing to well....i am getting very distraced by too many of the guys telling me how to do things...i havent ran more than 10 balls in over a week. but then again i havent had too much practice time either. Hopefully i can start putting more time in! great job on your 17! my goal is 30 this year . I turned 29 today so i figured 30 balls ( 2 full racks) by the time i am 30 seems like a pretty good goal!

Made another high run for the year in a practice session today. I ran out the rack but the break ball was in such a position that I had to play a back cut across sides. I made it but the cue ball went around the rack and came to rest near the rail and toward the head end. The only shot that I could think of was the bank off the corner of the rack. I shot it an it went in like it had eyes. Then, with the rack wide open I made 3 more for 19 and missed a fairly easy shot.

As the barefoot boy said when he stubbed his toe on a rock "I'm too old to cry but it hurts too much too laugh".

i figured 30 balls ( 2 full racks)
in straight pool you count racks by 14, meaning 2 "full" racks will be 28. So you add a couple of break balls also. But if you make a break ball and get a next shot - is there any reason to stop? ;) So I think once you reach that 30 you will step over it with the very next shot.
Happy practice.

Heather!!!
Im proud for you^^. Really love to see how your skills are going upwards. 2 Racks is amazing in that short time hun.

Congratulations,

Ingo

No I didn't run 30 yet I wish! That's the goal I am setting for the year! You will be the first to know when I do! Thanks for all the support and all the help!!!

I can see after the first two or three balls - you stroke with conviction and purpose. That's half the battle. I suspect you're going to get much better in a short period of time.

Looking forward to seeing more videos.

Good job-
Dave
