My Impressions of the pro events at SBE

Saw some great matches at SBE but on a whole this was disappointing.

1) The ten ball schedule was completely messed up. This could have been done in two days and done without playing matches until the middle of the night. Why did Friday and Saturday matches start so late. I had nothing to do all day. They easily could have scheduled it so that last match started at 7:30 PM so I could go to bed at a reasonable hour.

2) The VIP area was completely messed up. Why pay $20 to stand? The way the tables were set up was fine but you needed either bleachers on the back side to see the rear set of tables or something better done for the VIP seats.

3) No world class women at all for the Woman's Tournament. Dawn Hopkins and that was about it.

4) One pocket sucks. Play this in the far corners of the room for insomniacs needing to watch one pocket in order to sleep.

5) Organization was awful. When are the matches going to be played (hopefully during daylight) and on what table? THEY COMPLETELY WINGED IT.

6) Start one format of pool and finish it. Ten Ball till completion, Women's to completion and One Pocket until somebody dies of old age or boredom. No need for all of this to going on at the same time.

Maybe your to the event but they do it this way every year. They like to have the finals play at the same time so they spread it out all week. I agree with the women's tournament. There was no one there. I watched Emily duddy more because I like her then she's a great player. There were women there who had no business being in the pro arena. Honestly the last couple years it was Allison Fischer and then a bunch of women you knew had no chance to beat her Lol Jeanette lee was there every day doing self promotion ... Does she not play in pro tournaments any more? As much as I like her it seems all she does is this come pay $20 to play me because I'm hot and you can get a photo op bit.

Still I love the event and can't wait for next year.

I like Emily Duddy too. SHE'S REALLY HOT!!! However, I don't consider her to be at a pro player level. Seems like a nice girl but Jeanette Lee could spot her 4 games in a race to 10 easy.

Having not been there.... I am guessing they got down to the finals and saved them all til the last moment so everyone (fans with $$$) had to wait to see the winner?

G.

It's easy to understand why someone would hate playing or watching one pocket. 1) requires too much of the ability to think 2) requires ridiculous amounts of cueball control. So needless to say youre probably a hack and your opinion means nothing, especially if youre basing your whole sbe experience on "getting to see the pros" instead of playing yourself

A little less seven footers and 16 more nine footers couldve seen pro ten ball, 8 ball, one pocket, nine ball if played continuously to the finish with such small pro fields over 4 days.

So it can be done. But like another said, this is the format they've been working with.

One pocket between pros can be interesting, one pocket between hacks can be extremely slow.
he isn't the only one who felt that way about one pocket.

There was a bigger crowd watching the scotch doubles match involving shane, dechaine, and two 3 cushion champs play 3 cushion to 30 than watching the one pocket matches on friday.

Absolutely agree.

1) you didn't have to pay ... Only if you are in vip. 2) just because you don't like watching one pocket doesn't make you a hack .. To each his own. Most of the guys playing one pocket were straight off the street. The pros weren't playing in it for the most part lol lol keyboard tough guys make me laugh.

My sentiments exactly, Dave !..Anyone who doesn't like one pocket, is WAY out of touch with todays pool world !..He must not have noticed, that it is the game of choice, to watch, or bet on, for almost all gambler's !

There are a few hold-outs, (Archer, and a few others) but, as Strickland, SVB, and other top players are starting to realize, like Shannon D. did from the start, that eventually they they must 'learn it', if they want to stay in action !..It is simply the most demanding game, (for all-around skill) on a pool table. ;)

PS..'Paint by numbers games', like 9/10 ball, or 8 ball..May be more popular for novice viewer's..But once you learn the intricacies of one pocket, there is NOTHING boring about sweating it ! (suggestion..try betting a few bucks on it !) ;)

I watched Efren and a friend of mine play one pocket this past Thursday evening in my bar after it closed. 2 players and about 6 guys watching. It's the chess game of pool and you better bring your A game. If you want to watch someone pot a lot of balls, 8 ball is your game. If you want to watch a game of mental skill, offense, defense, potting balls and strategy, one pocket is your game.

Efren won, and that was at 1 am after playing 37 games of 10 ball in 90 degree heat followed by 40 games of 8 ball in my bar. More on that in another post.

You're a man who knows his pool, sir !.. Amazing, how at his now advanced age, Efren still loves to play, and he still plays
ALL games pretty well !..........But thats to be expected, of a guy who was the best 1P player in the world, for at least an entire generation ! ;)

One Pocket will separate the men from the boys! My generation of pool players loved to play One Pocket for money because we KNEW that no one was going to get lucky and beat us! The best player will win at this game, pretty much every time!
