Ive talked about pool with,
Dan louie, Jack Madden, Johnny Archer, Nick Varner, John Schmidt, A few others but those guys should be enough there should be no reason to name Atwell, Earl, Gieler (sp). I have asked everyone of them how do you AIM, How would you shoot this shoot for the cash..Not one named any aiming system in fact they all said by feel. How could that be..

Im sure there are some who think they have more to offer then thoughs mentioned, and theres probably many who will beleave that, but for me when one of the best players to ever hold a cue tells me him and his pals (other pros) laugh at all the aiming threads. Im going with the pros..

Earl says you want to play good you need to spin the ball Nobody spins the ball more or better than Efren. Spin means english, english means slide, squirt, swerve, curve, I dont beleave for a second there is one thing that takes all thoughs factors and negates them or EVERYBODY would be doing it and everybody would be world champion...

Befor you go posting some dumba** reply read carefully nowhere does it say aiming systems (for a lack of better words) dont work I think fractional is worth knowing but it is only a starting point. that might be where the cb needs to be at impact but what it does on its way do to what you tell it to do after is only going to be learned by hitting thousands of balls...

I have said this before...but you may have missed it.

Aiming systems simply put is a "tool" used to gain feel.

Basically, the people you spoke with use a very "freehand" method/system to gain feel....however...if you ask the correct questions...they "will" give you some sort of "method" to gain feel.

They may be using a system that is not in print anywhere and less defined than CTE....It is the "I know if it hit it here...it goes in" system.

Only Darth Vader uses "The Force" to make balls.

"I play by feel" seems to be the standard answer that will usually end any (aiming) conversation.

Sometimes I get the impression that people throw the "I use feel only" answer out...either because they know they can't describe what they do....Or.....They think it is somehow cooler and makes them a better player if they say they are a "feel" player......Or....They really don't want to tell you how to aim because they hold it as some holy grail secret.

Years ago I asked the best player in our league about aiming. He said that he just knows where to hit the OB ball by its position on the table. He said he doesn't need to look at the pocket. What it comes down to is that he has shot many many balls and played a lot of pool.

Watching the pros they just seem to get down on a shot and shoot. When they are in stroke they are in a rhythm and are not mechanical. It doesn't even look as if they address the ball or eyeball it. They just move to the shot, get down and shoot.

The only time that they take any time or are most deliberate is when doing a "harder" shot such as a safety, kick or etc. But when shooting balls in it is just routine.

My guess is they don't want to think about it. If you watch a pro on TV, they all get behind a hard shot at some point and aim with their cue. Their aiming system is just simplified after years of play. Make the OB go on this line.

99% of the people that asked me how to aim had a crooked stroke. I put them on a table and got them to shoot the CB into the corner pocket while I aim my cue back at their cue. I made them hold the finish (keep tip on table after contact). Some had their tip close to a foot off center from my tip. The CB would hit the sides of the pocket, rather than middle pocket.

Is an aiming system required to hit middle pocket? No, just a straight stroke! Make your stroke straight before aiming at OB's. No sense questioning aim when the stroke is the problem.

So, like the OP stated, systems are not required, I would add.... Most of the time. IMO

Gun shoots real straight but............

Hi there,

A gun shoots real straight if you have your eye on the site and line it up right.

There is a spot to have your eyes on every shot where it looks so good you could swear you couldn't miss it. This is the spot that we want to get the eyes. Just like when you line up the sites on the gun. The more you find this spot the more your body can execute the task that your eyes are seeing. Now you can practice coordinating the eyes and the body because the brain is getting the correct info.

The only thing is it is a little more complicated with a pool cue. There is no site on the cue. So what happens is the person that naturally finds this spot and gets there the the most is usually the best shooter. Thus he can play some bad shape but shoot his way back to a win.

If you see the shot right it can be very easy to correct the stroke. In fact over time it will naturally correct itself to a certain degree.

Have you ever seen the Rifleman, an old western with Chuck Conners. He shot his rifle down low but he still got the gun under the eyes. Can you imagine if the gun stayed over to the side and he didn't move the head over the barrel of the rifle. It would be hard to hit anything.

This is how many players are trying to aim these shots. Nobody knows where this natural perfect site is. They just get there by feel. This is because they don't know how to find it.

Now if you played 8 hours a day, 7 days a week you will naturally get to this spot naturally alot better. You don't know how you got there but the shots are looking real good. Then we call this in stroke. Part is the stroke but a big part of it is the eyes are getting in a mofre correct position to allow you to see the shot better.

A player can be taught to get to this position but the problem is that nobody in the whole world is teaching it. This is what I teach with perfect Aim and it is the real deal.

Have a grerat day geno..............
