My Latest Playing Episode

if you recall, the last time i played "Dave", who is an excellent player (1998 BCA 8-Ball Champion) i was pitiful. couldnt do nothing. i lost like 7-2, 7-0, 7-1, 7-1. it was demoralizing, i almost wanted to cry. so i went to see Mark Wilson to see if he could help. which he did, to a certain degree.

tonight i had my rematch with "Dave" and all is much better now. i still lost, but by much closer scores. i won the first set 7-6, then lost 7-2, 7-2, and trailed 6-5 in the last set with "Dave" breaking. he came up dry, and i proceeded to run the rack to bring it to hill-hill.

i broke the last rack, made a ball, had a tricky combo on the 1-5, and just missed, it rattled, but wouldnt fall. if that goes in, i probably tie "Dave" for the evening, set wise. he then proceeds to clear the table for the 7-6 win.

played much better, got into a little flow. made 2-3 really difficult shots also. however, i messed up big time 2-3 times, and found some things to work on. while i didnt win, i played much better, didnt choke, and seem back on the road to superstardom. well, er, uh, perhaps just being a decent player.

regards,
DCP

When i first saw the title, i asked myself "how many stitches will this 'episode' be worth?" :D :p

Wait for it piglit, it will come ...

I've found that when one plays a significantly better player even, the scores are real lop-sided. It doesn't help to be demoralized, rather I try to keep things in perspective. I'm sure there are a ton of players who you can beat 9-1 on a regular basis, but that shouldn't build up ones ego either. Stay real and you'll do fine ... loosing badly to a national 8-ball champ is nothing to be ashamed of. Taking as many games as you did is an achievement, well done !

Dave, who is not a champion .... yet !

I really enjoy these threads DrCue. It's nice to see what some good instruction and hard work can accomplish. Thanks for sharing.

Nice going, DCP. Hold on tight to those positive thoughts and who knows how far your game can progress.

thanks for the encouragement fellow posters.
as i recall, i only missed one shot that i felt i should have made. and a couple of times i screwed up position on what i felt should have definitely been easy situations.

so i'll work on some of those things next.

Good luck DCP! Maybe we'll see you on the front page of AZ after having won a big tournament.
