I am so excited, My Lesson with the "Pearl" is scheduled on Monday!!! @ Mike Gulyassy's Shop. I am a bit nervous... How many times in life could you get "Pointers from a world champion like Earl?

I have a lot of questions for him about "Pressure", and "Mind Strategie to Win", Several of his World Class Shots, Deflection, Shot Making, and the list goes on and on!

Any ideas or advice to ask while spending 4 hours with a TRUE WORLD CHAMP? I will post pics ASAP and my Wife and Friend will Video Too! Stay Posted. CIAO!

Bring your golf clubs. lol

You're going to have a lot of fun! Earl is a great guy.

Just open your ears and listen. You have one hell of a great opportunity to learn from the most successful 9 ball player of the last 25 years. A lot of people would die for the opportunity you have on Monday. Eat it up!

YOu might consider asking Earl questions about alignment. How do you align your body so that the shot is easy to make? Is it important to align your dominant eye over the cue or can you center your eyes over the cue? I think alignment may be the most underrated part of pool.

Another thing that you might ask him is what are some ways to keep from raising your head while shooting a shot. It is a common but critical mistake for many players.

Tell Earl, that the AZ forum members said hello and good luck with his new relationship with Mike Gulyassy.

Good luck and have fun.

There are not many players in the world who can pocket balls like earl. Ask him about how he pockets the balls like he does. Ask him how he aims and how he aligns his body to the shot. And than post here what he says. Great shot making skills are the key to high runs!

You know i really wish people like youself would just back off Earl..whatever quirks you have on him..it wasnt warented in this thread..someone was posting something good about Earl and how glad and priviliged they were to get to spend time with a living legend..dont be a kill joy:mad: be a  poster ;)

Tony: I also agree that alignment is critical. I see that Earl puts his cue neither face centered or under his "dominant eye". Is Earl wrong?....randyg

One of MANY of Earl's pool traits is that he is a breaking machine and knows all the ins and outs of breaking. He has fine-tuned it to a science. If you can glean anything from Earl about his breaking strategies and techniques, it will definitely improve your game.

God bless America and all of its pool players who have devoted their life to this sport. Here's a five-time U.S. Open champion making himself available to help others. He is an American legend, and nowhere in any other sport would somebody be as fortunate to get a one-on-one learning experiences, unless, of course, they paid six figures for an hour of time. This is a golden opportunity to learn from one of the best, and I hope you gain a lot of knowledge from the wisdom disseminated by The Pearl! :)

Whatever you do, don't forget to ask "The Pearl" about his world-renowned attitude, sportsmanship, and self-control of one's emotions...he's obviously perfected those elements of his craft in the later years of his career...!!!
Oh yeah, and a few more creative moves, e.g., snapping the shaft of your cue on the floor, unashamedly holding both hands over your ears to drown out applause for your opponent, and ignorantly failing to shake hands with your opponent at the end of the match...just a sampling of a few more "moves" that he's perfected recently...!!!
Earl Strickland disseminating words of wisdom...GIVE ME A BREAK...!!!
This idiot, who is "supposedly" a professional, behaves worse than a spoiled child who's had his candy taken away...!!! It's too bad that the UPA (or whatever ruling body there is in professional pool) hasn't severely sanctioned him publicly before now...he's become an embarrassment to the sport and himself, and yet you continue to revere him...it just doesn't make sense...!!!
But then, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that you're a Mike Tyson fan, either...huh...????????

Here's somebody who comes on a thread about a person looking forward to taking lessons from an American pool champion, Earl Strickland, and then proceeds to bash Earl, calling him an idiot.

You are an embarassment to this forum. How dare you ruin this thread in the manner which you have chosen. It is no wonder good-meaning threads turn to crap when there are folks like you who take pleasure in forum behavior such as this and ruin threads.

I could think of a few more choice words for you, Pal, but choose to retain the integrity of the forum rather than exposing you for the creep that you really are.

TAP TAP TAP !!!

Funny how the truth "stings like a bee", isn't it...????
If you'd be rational enough to view my comments in the light in which they were presented, you (or anyone else) could NOT logically dispute them, as Earl has clearly, for all the world to see, behaved precisely in the manner described...NO EMBELLISHMENT NEEDED ON MY PART...!!!
There was nothing said about his playing record, as that ALSO speaks for itself...!!!
But to revere this guy who has clearly become an embarrassment to himself and the sport only demonstrates you willingness to meander through life with either rose-colored glasses, blinders, or possibly both...!!!
Yeah, I'll bet that's it...!!!

To all the Earl bashers...

Everyone is always entitled to their own opinion, you should just learn when and where it is appropriate to express it. Earl is trying to get his act together. Those who don't like him should give him the opportunity to start acting like the world class champion that he is and always will be.

You are nothing more than an instigating flame-thrower.

What does "Jagr Fan" stand for? Just a Gremlin Remnant?

I've seen some of the YouTube links when Earl had to compete in a so-called professional tournament in front of European barbarians, screaming at the top of their lungs, banging their feet on the ground, blowing airhorns, and beating drums like they're ready to go to war. I think you're the one wearing the rose-colored glasses, Pal. It's people like you who disgust me in this pool world.

You guys need to stop this. Earl is a world champ who posesses a tremendous amout of knowledge about the game. Have you stop too think that maybe just maybe Earl does all this to psyc out his opponents?

Plus what is the point of getting on here and bashing Earl because he gets cocky or whatever....it does no one anyone good and makes yourselves look like idots to the world......

Let's turn this thread back to "Lessons with Earl" PLEASE.:)

"European barbarians" ..........what the ???

Well, listen to it for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyLcGY4twOE

I cannot imagine a professional player in a foreign country having to compete under these conditions. This is barbarianism at its finest. Even the referee had to warn the spectators that they would be asked to leave the premises if they contniued to behave in this manner. I have NEVER, NEVER, NEVER seen a tournament in the U.S. where spectators acted like this when an international player was in the pit.

I would like to play under these circumstances. Think it would be a great Focus test! Something I've really been working on lately.

Did you watch it in its entirety? Judging by the times, when I posted the link and when you responded, there was only a 3-minute difference.

A professional tournament player competing in a meaningful event should NOT have to play under these conditions. This is not a football stadium.

Let me just explain something about the crowd. what you were seeing wasn't barbarianism (lol i see where you are coming from), but good old english football crowd banter and atmosphere. Whilst i don't doubt for a second there were probably a few yobs there whose sole aim was shout insults at earl, i can guarantee you 95% of that crowd had nothing against any player, not least of all Earl.

Anybody who has ever been to a good english football match will testify what the atmosphere is about. it's about getting together with the lads, drinking a few lagers, eating pie and chips, and BANTER. there's next to nothing in the world like 30 odd thousand fans all singing their hearts out, "the referee's a w****r, the referee's a w****r", or "you're s**t, and you know you are, you're s**t!" etc etc. it's all in good fun and nothing personal is meant by 99% of people and everybody understands. there is no sport in the world to offer this sort of camarderie and atmosphere and i'm very proud it's very much a british thing.

the problem here is two things. one, playing pool in this environment, and two. earl playing pool in this environment.

the first is another debate. the second there is two parts to it. firstly Earl is an American from North Carolina. He is not used to this environment, and understandarbly so! second, earl is a more emotional hotheaded character than most, which makes it all a lot lot worse. and he then starts getting lulled into it all and starts talking back to the crowd and it escalates, and it gets nasty. which is extremely unfortunate.

the irony in all this is Earl is a fans favourite and extremely unique personality. if he played played the crowd differently, he would have the crowd pulling for him like no other player could possibly compete with!

i know we're veering off topic here but i felt i needed to explain this.

back on topic, good luck with your lesson with Earl and tell us as much as you can when you're done!

No, I'm watching it now. I agree with you wholeheartedly and did from your first post. I still think it would be a great test of concentration though....one I'd probably fail at.

The fact is that Earl is a great player and should be treated as such even if he doesn't always do the same (not that you said anything negative). Lets get back to "Lessons with Earl".

I can't wait to here what happens on Monday.
