As well to see some of the great folks from this forum.

Nice find there Mike.Quality Cues said:Richard:
You forgot to say that you got the cue from Mike Gartland d/b/a Quality Cues and that I took the photos that you posted.
TATE said:It's a beauty of course, and I really like the veneer close-ups. It shows the care they used building the forearm.
I think it's interesting that todays shaft woods are so white compared to the woods being used even just 15 - 20 years ago. This is true of virtually all shaft re-makes.
The color is not just in the finish, it's in the wood. I've had old original shafts taken down to the bare wood and refinished, and the wood is not nearly as bright white as the wood today.
My guess is the probelm is that the trees are much smaller when harvested, and the heartwood is lighter in color than the outer growth.
It is not so obvious until shown side by side with the originals.

Any other GEMS hiding in your closet?

This is Ethan; I introduced myself at CC USA last week (you keep promising me a game someday).
Your cue is GORGEOUS. I didn't know what you meant by a Hoppe ring when you described it, but now that I see it I love it. The veneers are great too. Hope I get to see it in person soon!
Take it easy.
kenl said:Wow, those veneers are really nice. Can you describe the hit, maybe its close to some other custom you've hit before, so I can at least know what it feels like cause I don't think I'll get a chance to hit lest own one but a Gus is my dream cue.

Matt_24 said:That cue is CLEAN and begging to be played with.
My friend Andy (RIP) had a highly decorated Gus (w/ original shipping box, fellini, and 4 shafts, 3 of which were unplayed with) that he used EVERY DAY! Those cues were playing cues that just happened to look good.![]()
Matt_24 said:I'm going to try and post a pic of Andy w/ his Szamboti. Only one I could find as he is part of the "Starcade" logo (he was formerly the co-owner). Unfortunately you can't get a close up look at his Szam, but that cue was a "player", and I unfortunately didn't realize the significance when Andy let me hit balls with it (didn't quite know or appreciate what I had in my hands).
rlcarter55 said:Thanks for posting the picture Matt. Is "Starcade" still in business? Too bad your friend didn't leave the cue to you or at least to someone who would appreciate it. It took a while to get back to you, I have been busy with work.
