My new setup

I used to make my ring billetts similarly a few years ago. I had a 24" Atlas lathe that I wasn't using so I removed the chuck so as to give me more room. I then mounted an indexer facing the tailstock like yours, and mounted a tool post grinder onto the tool post like yours. By using the lathe but not using the chuck, I could turn on the lathe and use the lathe's
feed to drive the router along. Worked pretty well. I finally just started to use my CNC for making the billets.

Hi,

I had the same experience as rhncue and went to CNC. I took a bench top Atlas Clausing, removed the chuck and installed a 5C collet indexer and weld it to the spindle bore so it would not slip index. I still have the machine.

I installed a vertical Rigid router and used different sized wing cutter to mill my slots.

I have reposted the machine here in this section.

This is how RBC would upgrade

That's a good idea.
I just had to think about it and then I upgraded with a milling attachment.
Now i can mill all slots with the same router bit or i can go a little up and down for the right slot width if my bit is too small
