My old buddy and Golfing partner...

Sorry for your loss, Bill. Losing Ernie Banks is a big loss for millions of baseball fans, he seemed to be pure class. Condolences to his family and friends around the world.

Dave

Sorry Dave, but it was not HIS loss !..Doesn't it seem odd, that anyone would demand keeping a set golf
clubs for 'security', when gambling with his [sic] "close friend", and one of the classiest, best loved gentleman in all of baseball ?.. But I guess thats how you operate, when you are the least trusted, most disliked person in ALL of amatuer sports ! :(

I feel absolutely ZERO guilt, for pointing out that fact !..One can only assume, that if Stan Mikita owed him a few $$$ gambling debt, he would demand his 'hockey stick' for security ?..Apparently, he much prefers bragging and "name dropping", to letting Mr. Cub 'rest in peace' ! :sorry:

PS..(late edit)..Dave, my daughter will be picking me up on her way back from SoCal in late March..Hope we can get together for our long delayed visit. ;)

This is EXACTLY why this person got BANNED for good on the other sites! High jacking, infecting and demeaning members posts! When a person is bitter about their life and REALLY don't like themselves, they tend to want ALL around them to join in their misery! Or, to have some sympathize and take up their banner! This a complete crying out for attention and recognition, for which they feel they NEVER received in the prime of their lives!

I see my old buddy and golfing partner died today, Ernie Banks 'Mr. Cub!'

We played many a round a Golf at Waveland Golf Course, only a few blocks from Wrigley Field. Ernie was a very likable guy, always smiling and full of conversation, sometimes too much! He never stopped talking from the 1st tee to the last putt!

I once beat him out of $300.00, I took his irons when he came up short! I was going out of town, I told the guys, 'Give them back to him in a few days!'

I never saw the $300.00, but he gave me a memento of that WIN, to treasure forever!

R.I.P. Ernie, catch you on the back nine Pal.

Did he also play pool??????????

Mac; All the guys around the golf course where we all played knew that I played 3 Cushion. We sometimes went to a bar afterwards where they had bar tables, but, I never saw Ernie try and play. He would only stay for a short time anyway, too many distractions from fans an such.

The one thing I'll always remember about Ernie is that He loved to talk, obviously, mostly about Baseball and how he hit the last shot on the course!

Ironically, another member here PM me when He saw this thread and told me his Dad who was a friend and golf buddy of mine passed away too. He asked me if his Dad ever played with Ernie and us at Waveland, He didn't actually, He and I with another group played at 'Caldwell' on the weekends.

The Cue and Golf worlds are smaller than one would think!

You have "infected" your own thread, and your 'kind' rememberences (mostly of YOURSELF) and Ernie Bank's long enough !..If you don't mind, I shall let you continue to embarrass yourself, in some more suitable location !..I'm sure you'll keep trying, but there is absolutely nothing YOU can say, to embarrass me !

SJD

PS..Likewise for your crony Punter....At least he has sense enough to let me embarrass him, mostly via PM !..But, just like you Bunter loves to keep embarrassing poor 'Tooth' :o)

I have played pool with a number of pro athletes over the years. I owned a pool room/bar and a number of Miami Dolphins came in.

I don't remember one that could play pool. A few would gamble and I could give them anything they wanted and beat them. Most took it in stride. I remember one night though I beat Bob Kuechenberg for like $300. playing in a strip club.

This was a place I went because it actually had some pool action and I was the local go to guy if someone wanted to play. In fact when I would be gambling I often had a bigger crowd then the naked dancing girls.

Anyway this one night I am playing Bob Kuechenberg who could play a little. What I didn't know was he could be a real hot head. At my 135 lb's I could not imagine a guy who is like 250 and a pro football player would actually hit me.

Fortunately we were paying after every game because when he blew up and went after me I headed for the door. A couple of other players with him grabbed him and calmed him down but that was the end of the game. I guess I embarrassed him in front of the girls or something.

I remember reading one time that Leo Durocher played very good pool and even finished well in a world tournament.

When they were in town, many years ago! Bo Belinski, Dean Chance and Mamie Van Doren used to come down to Bensingers. Bo and Dean used to gamble with Artie and Reno, they'd give them some outrageous spot, they'd loose and drink and leave till the next time!

I know Leo used to play Gin Rummy pretty good, about the pool, I'm not quite sure.

I think I met you once once if you are who I think you are. We had a mutual friend Bill Maloney who died not long ago.

100% Mac, Billy was a long, long time friend! I miss him very much! He's the reason I moved to FL. We were suppose to open a room here in Central FL. His Dad lived in Orlando and was very sick, Billy wanted to be closer to him and honestly He'd had enough of 'Wilton Manors,' if you know what I mean.

Billy was one of the 'Good Guys!'

He retired after this year. Consequently, this is his last card.

Too bad it has a fake signature on the card you showed. He always signed Ernie Banks (not Ernest which was his given name) and his signature didn't look anything like the one on that card.

That signature is printed on every card that Topps made for the regular set. Every player card in the set has a printed signature on it. Topps usually used the signature they received from the players when they signed their contract with Topps in late 1970 through mid-1971. It is definitely NOT a real autograph. It is a part of the manufactured printing of the set.
