My ONLY Cue

Well....it took me quite a long time, but I finally found a bottle of Bookers! There is like only 3 bottles left in this area...so I was lucky to find it at all.

Thanks so much for the heads up!! While it is not something I can afford all the time, it is quite a treat to partake. ;)

And yes, I am being very careful...hehehe...being only about 125lbs soaking wet, a shot is about my limit.....well....maybe two, on occasion. :D

Thanks again for the bourbon whiskey enlightenment, it is most appreciated!!!

Lisa

Glad you liked it. Bookers is too expensive but it is excellent. Toldja it went better w/ that nice cue of yours.

Booze

Well if ya want to talk about booze, you shoulda been at the VF Expo. I took a jar of good ol' Virginia shine to Blud. Had to have been run thru twice, smooth as a new born babys ass. Blud was offering swigs to folks having tips put on. He laid about five shots on another cuemaker that he isn't particularly fond of, no names mentioned here, and the guy came in the next day GREEN.
I kicked a few back with some AZ members. Maybe next year, huh. I like Blantons and Bookers, but this shine is just as good at $12 a pint. IMHO

Man.....I haven't even seen 'shine since leavin' Virginia! Not sure I even have the constitution for it anymore. Been away too dang long, but it just isn't the same there anymore.

We do have a small town of Tar Heels here called Hamilton, WA....so it's almost like home.....'cept the mountains are way, way taller. :)

The nice thing about it, you don't have to drink it, just twist the lid and smell. Hell of a nice buzz. Where in Virginia you been Lisa?

Well....let's see.....born in Norfolk, moved shortly thereafter to Virginia Beach, where we stayed until dad retired from the Navy in 1966. We then moved to Woodbridge, where I stayed until I graduated in 1977. I was whisked away to Pensacola, FL until 1982, moving to Fallon, NV until 1988, when I moved to Tustin, CA (yuck!)....moving rather quickly away to Macon, GA in 1990. Ran like hell to Whidbey Island, WA in 1990, where I stayed until 1997. After a near deadly divorce, I moved to a very small, quiet town in the Cascade foothills called ClearLake, WA......and have been here ever since. Don't plan on moving again anytime in the near or even distant future........I really love it here in WA......just gorgeous.

There you have it....and what a long strange trip it's been ;)

Talk about your small worlds....I too am a Woodbridge Senior High grad, Class of '77! I remember the move from the 'old' school to the 'new' school in the fall of '73 or '74. Too wild!! Go Vikings!! :D

And 1 more Woodbridge connection...my wife graduated from Woodbridge High, the new one (unlike you old codgers!!).

Did they build another new one or are we talking about the one on Old Bridge Rd? I remember when that one first opened. The entire school was wide open....part of the 'Open School' concept back then. All the classrooms were set up in 'pods' and only had three walls. The library was wide open, and a great gathering place. It was actually a pretty cool school to attend back in those days. I went back about six years later, and they had walled everything up....it was kind of depressing. It was exactly a mile from my house to the school down Old Bridge Rd. The reason I remember this is because we used to race from there to the school.....til I got caught that is ;)

Hey Lisa,

I nearly purchased that cue from classiccues.com a while back, but unfortunately for me, I ran into some cash flow problems and it fell through. I can only hope that the cue I have on order from Skip right now looks as good as that one! Happy shooting and great looking cue!

Hey Zack...

Let me guess, sometime around September/October last year? I know all about cashflow 'issues'. I traded in a cue, and sold my beloved Taylor guitar in order to be able to get into this Skip cue. I had to have it!

I love Skip's cues. Is he making you one like this one, or did you come up with something different? What kind of wood combo did you decide on? Just curious. I would love to see pics when it's done. I just marvel at most everything he does.

This cue is awesome to shoot with! I have never shot with a cue that feels like a natural extension of my arm before this one. I really think you will be very happy with your cue when you finally receive it.

I think the conundrum with Skip's cues are that they are so magnificiently crafted, that you want to store them away, yet they beg to be played with. He definitely builds a 'players' cue.

I have had opportunity 2x now to trade out of this cue for something worth more, but the cue will not let me do it. Every time I pull it out of it's case, it just floors with it's simple all wood beauty. And quite frankly, I am shooting so darn well with, that it terrifies me to let it go in favor of another cue that may not shoot as well as this does. And you just don't know until you have settled in with a cue, how it's gonna 'suit' you...and by then, it's too late to get your old cue back.

Sorry....I am rambling....I could go on all day about Skip's cues...hehehehehe. :D

September/October sounds about right. I am getting a southwest style 6 pointer with an ebony forearm and amboyna burl points and afterwrap and southwest style rings. The veneers are going to be bloodwood and curly maple. I am really looking forward to it and it should be finished in late July, early August.

I am very excited and I can't hardly wait to get my new cue. I also recently put my name on the list for a Hercek cue so I have 5 years to save up for a cue from him! :)

Well...you will simply have to post a pic here once you get it. ;) Sounds like the cue will be a knock out. I actually hate the pic of my cue, as it really, really does not even do it justice. The BE is incredible, and there is alot of 'flame'. I like his 'reversed' spliced cues, because he doesn't do too many of them, and each is a treat.

I have not decided on another cuemaker yet...I like Richard Harris' stuff, as he works primarily in wood, and produces some of the nicest cocobolo cues I have ever seen...but he very rarely does veneers with his points. I really like Paul Mottey's cues, and then there is a particular Scruggs that I am smitten with, but I just can't get there from here. :)

Well I'm ANXIOUSLY awaiting the arrival of my new Skip cue, too! Unfortunately it probably won't be here until Monday. This will be my 3rd cue from Skip, but the first one that I actually ordered to my specs. The design will be a 4-point, ebony on ebony cue with holly/ebony/holly (white/black/white) veneers. It will have sharp, tiffany diamonds in the points and a white and black lizard skin wrap. The butt will be a Hoppe design with 6 sharp ivory diamonds and dots in between them. It will also have a hoppe ring at the end. I'll be sure to post pictures as soon as I get it, too. It will look basically like a Capone cue I had that I called the "Black Beauty". There should be a link to pictures in the gallery somewhere. This one will be even nicer since Skips points are both thicker and sharper. I'm really looking forward to getting this one!

Zac, you will not be disapointed with Joel Hercek's cues, either. I've been fortunate to have 2 of them, and I have a new one on the way. It should be here in about 3 months. Both of these cuemakers are artists, and their works are something to be cherished for a lifetime.

Good luck!

Now I just have to sweat the 5 years...lol! I hope it won't be too painful.

My Skip's arriving in September...

Since I live 30 minutes from his shop, I might have to shackle myself to a radiator to keep from driving over there every week to check up on the "status."

I ordered a pretty traditional 4 ebony points into BEM, with Ebony/Bloodwood/Maple veneers (out to in). Flat-faced ivory joint. Sharp ivory diamonds within each point, ivory/bloodwood rings, hoppe ring and white/green linen wrap (I'll probably get it pigskinned later on).

And I believe (not positive) that mine will be the first Skip with a Radial pin (my idea, not his. He almost talked me out of it).

Skips Cues

EVERYONE HERE IS CERTAINLY RIGHT ON THE MONEY ABOUT SKIPS CUES. THEY ARE PERFECTION, AND THEY PLAY LIKE A DREAM AS WELL. THE ONE BELOW IS THE CUE I HAD BUILT FOR ME BY SKIP LAST YEAR. THE CUE IS EXECUTED PERFECTLY, PLAYS LIKE A DREAM AND TURNS HEADS EVERYTIME I PUT IT TOGETHER. I'M GOING TO HAVE SKIP BUILD ME A NEW CUE TO THE DIMENSIONS I'M USED TO THOUGH, (THICKER IN THE BUTT) SO THIS ONE IS FOR SALE. DON'T WANT TO SEE IT GO BUT I'M USED TO THE OVERSIZED OLD-SCHOOL DIMENSIONS AND CAN'T GET USED TO THIS IN MY BACK HAND. OTHER THAN THAT IT IS LIKE A DREAM. WISH I WOULD HAVE ORDERED IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. MY LOSS. IF INTERESTED E-MAIL ME DCBASSGUY@HOTMAIL.COM

It might be kinda cool if, once everyone gets their Skip cues in their hot little hands, if we could run a thread, perhaps something titled like SWCC, and then everyone could post their pics all together in the one thread.

BTW....SWCC....Skip Weston Cue Club :D

Lisa

PS...F-N-L, that's a gorgeous cue!!
