My Slate Broke. Can It Be Repaired?

I just sold my 7' Valley pool table and was going to use the money to set up and felt my 10' Brunswick. The guy was supposed to come up from Minneapolis yesterday. So on Sunday I took the slate out to do some minor adjustments inside the table and when I went to lift on the slate and slide it back into place the slate snapped.

I've been trying to find a slate for around $300 because the buyer is still interested if I can replace the slate or repair it.

Does anyone know of a slate that I can pick up for around $300 or is this slate repairable?

Thanks

It could be put back together, but think it's safe to say it would never be right again and not worth the effort.

On the other hand,I hear stories all the time about 7' Valley's selling for 300 bucks,so may you catch one on the cheap and replace it. Tommy D.

That's a pretty big chunk. I would think if you can get it good an level, some good epoxy and some bees wax would take care of it. Just don't pick it up from that end ever again.

I helped fix a friends bar box with epoxy, though the slate chunk wasn't as big. His table plays fine.

this is a floating slate. They are covered then droped in place. It can't be fixed. You can order new slate for it for about $150.00 but shipping is tripple that.

But if I was the buyer and knew that it was put back together, the price would go down considerably.

It broke sliding it into place??

CONFESS!!!

I was ready to slide it back into place and the bolt for the bumper in that corner was sticking out in the way of the slate to be lowered in. So I lifted up on the corner to put my hand under the slate and push the bolt out of the way and, "SNAP"! I left all the bolts hanging in the rails and I must have bumped that one when I walked passed it. When I took the bumpers off I should have set the bolts on the floor.

I know where there are two tables tucked into a swamp in MS care of hurricane Rita, the slates should still be good.

It can be supreglued back together. I've done it in the past. After the repair I picked up the whole slate by the broken corner. Results will depend on how accurately you get the two pieces aligned. Take your time and get it right. Once its glued there is no going back.

Wow, that's hard to believe ! Not saying it's not true, I just would have never guessed it.

It's easy to get them stuck together its difficlut to get them flat/level. I was surprised the bond was so strong. The tables been repaired for about 3 years now.

fix slate

I think you could get a good result with JB weld. Get the original JB not the fast setting. The JB weld will give you time to set the slate in place. Do not use a fast setting epoxy.

If you use epoxy go to a Golf supply store like Golfsmith and buy there 24 hour setting epoxy. It is made to withstand shock.

They also have a 5 minute set 20 minute cure epoxy that I have used to put outside mirror housings back to gether on 4 whellers. And I have not had a one come apart.

Funny how this stuff always ends up in the main forum when there is a whole section specifically for these types of problems.http://forums.azbilliards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=54 <-----Click Here

I used liquid dowels to make a repair like that.

Bees Wax

I would not recommend the Bees Wax if the table is in a garage or any place that summer tempretures get high. I had a 3 piece slate put together that way and after a couple years little ridges formed where the bees wax had pushed up out of the joints I think due to the heat, but mine was in an non air conditioned garage so sometimes the temps were well over 100 in the late afternoons
