MY sledgehammer findings

I bought a NEW "sledgehammer" by Mike Gulyassy, which is built by Samsara, from KOINKID on here last week. I wanted to say THANKS to Troy for the nice cue for one, and give my evaluation on its performance also. All I can say really, is WOW!! The hit sounds bad to me like the old ones did, but it outperforms the old models by a ton. I've used it now about 3 times, and have NEVER made as many 9's on the break as I do using this cue to break with now. I'm not a great jumper by any means, but it does that well also...At least for me, if the balls are about 2 ball lengths apart  . I got alot of work to do on my jumping, I know that, but I can see this cue has potential. I go back to working 1st shift within about 2 weeks, so after that I'll spend more time playing and not sleeping. LOL Anyways, I wanted to comment that I like the cue and now recommend it to anyone thinking of getting one...You won't regret that purchase. Again, thanks Troy, Jeff

You will have to let me try it out next time I'm up. Did my break cue bring back some memories of the old sledgehammer LOL. I will probally go back to a sledgehammer as I miss my old one I use to have.

yep

I will do that buddy! Yes, your break cue brought back some great memories...But like I noted before, this sledgehammer outperforms the old ones IMO, which could be another reason they're so costly...Not to mention they're made by the good people at SAMSARA who did a fantastic job. Let me know when you make it back up here and I'll bring it along. ttyl Dave, Jeff :D

Thanks for the kind words Jeff. Glad you like your new JB cue. If anyone is looking for one of these great cues please contact me I have an AZB discount for you.

Distinguish it from the Sledgehammer sold by Seyberts for $200 including your price.

Compare it to the x-breaker.

wtf?

What's the over and under this will be for sale in 2 months??? LOL

Joey, joey, joey,I'll tell ya' what...anyone wanting to wager it'll be for sale in less than 2 months, you got a bet! I know I've sold alot of cues I definitely shouldn't have, but thats the way of buying/selling cues...You win some, you lose some. I'm gonna start playing again in 2 weeks when I get back on first shift, so I'll need a good break cue for one of my playing cues. My PH sneaky j/b is only used with my playing PH sneaky, or I wouldn't have even bought it. Now, my 2 months bet starts today the 21st so is anyone interested in losing some money? LOL Man, you're tough on me...What'd I ever do to you? LOL

Compare it to the x-breaker.

I have a X-Breaker 2nd Gen made by Samsura, as well as this Gulyassy made by Samsura also.

Joints are the same, in fact the two cues are interchangeable.. I have enjoyed trying the X-Breaker Leather handle with the Sledgehammer shaft.

The taper is significantly different. X-Breaker is thicker.
Jumping - I like the X-Breaker for sure
Break - Both are very good
White ball control - both are very good
Making balls on the break - both are excellent
Chalk - both hold no problems
Sound - both have a distinct phenolic noise (I like the Gulyassy better)

Which do I prefer? Both are excellent cues. I like the X-Breaker jumping ability better then the Sledgehammer. I will continue to use both for a while to see if I enjoy one more then the other. Now, I want to try a Varney to see if I notice a difference.

I wonder

How Samsara handles that since they are privy to the scientific knowledge from 3 different Break companies/cuemakers? Seems like there would be ethical questions and possible conflicts of interest involved.

Thank you so much for your detailed comparison. I read somewhere that the x-breaker tip was made of some space age material much harder than phenolic & better able to hold chalk. Obviously, much hype & nonsense. Thank you for your precision & candor.
