not speaking for allen here . i think he is stating what i am stating.
its not about how well you do your job. its not about angies list. its not about your prices. its not about your number of satisfied customers.
its about INTEGRITY. do what you say you are going to do , when you say you are going to do it.
if you can not meet your obligations.....for what ever reason....send the customer his property and his money back.
being in the top echelon of your trade does not entitle you to keep some ones property or funds they paid in advance until YOU DECIDE to send them back to the customer when they request it after you fail to meet the agreed upon time line.
My comments stand. Do some research using the search function or better yet go to RKC. I don't erase comments because I have no need to.

Dave, I understand you wanting to take up for a fellow mechanic, but you should find another one besides RKC. I've never had him work on my table and never met him. Like I said, after reading what I have I will never use him and I'm sure he wouldn't do work for me if I asked.

i stated earlier that rkc has never done work for me.....and never will.
and yes my opinion is based on reading some one elses experience.
as a matter of fact i have read of several customers experiences.....both good and bad. some were so bad they got deleted.
you are right ....rkc does not need my work. i believe you would be better at answering his phone and scheduling his jobs since you think his integrity and work ethic is above reproach.
I can guarantee you it's not easy when your body gives up on you.
In almost ten years of making and many more doing repairs I just recently had to do that very thing. You have NO clue how hard it was! Worse than trying to swallow a pork roast in one bite!!!!
Only having to refund money on one cue the rest (ten) decided to wait. I still have every intention of finishing them all and the guy that got a refund will still get his cue,I even told him he can have it for free. He knows what I'm going through as do the others and I don't blame him one little bit as I might have done the same.
If you ever owned a business, do you want it to be defined by posters who never met you OR by customers?

I AM NOT A TABLE MECHANIC, only done a few, when I finished my House in 1992 the first thing I did was get an 8 footer and set it next to the bar, that was a few tables ago.

proof ? as i stated earlier those threads were deleted. they were not deleted because of false or erroneous statements by his customers. they were deleted because of several profanity laced diatribes by rkc directed at his customers and anyone else who disagreed with rkc.
as a matter of fact i used to own a bussiness so i know what its like trying to please 100% of your customers 100% of the time.
i am well aware that customers don't want to hear about your problems meeting your obligations.
my customes did not care if i had equipment failures. they did not care if it rained 4 days straight . they did not care if i had family issues or health problems. all they cared about was that the job was done right and on time.
did i ever miss a deadline ? a couple of times but i was pro active. when i saw i was going to miss a dead line i called my customer and explained the situation and the steps i was taking toremedy it and they were always agrreable with it. i did not just let it pass and wait to get a nasty phone call complaining about it.
i would work weekends....12-14 hour days. i once worked 7 days a week for 4 months to meet a dead line . whatever it took to fulfill my obligations.
did i have 100% customer satisfaction ? no ....no bodys perfect. the thing is i never once made excuse after excuse or lie after lie to cover up my failure to meet my dead line.
i had a gall bladder operation . they opened me up and took my gall bladder and 5 gall stones out. i had 8 staples across my midsection. the day after the staples were removed i was on the jobsite trying to climb up on my backhoe. the jobsite supervisor came up and the 1st question he asked me is....are you human ? i said yea...why ?
he asked what are you doing here after just having an operation ? i said trying to meet my dead line. he walked away and i assume he called his boss because a few minutes later the owner of the coppmany i was subbing from called me and told me to take my ass home. i told him i was falling behind due to being off for the operation. he said he appreciated my effort but to take my ass home and he would extend the deadline.

Read the talk to the talk to a mechanic forum, there's a poster in there requesting help, he has a broken slates on his 5'×10' Brunswick and is looking for someone who can fix it, that don't do shit for work....in Seattle, WA......so be a good person and find him some help, I can't tell him who to call because I know the work of every mechanic in the PNW, and fixing a broken slate is way over their heads.....so there you go, show the kind of man you are!!!
PS, maybe Mr. Allen Brown can help you with this customer in need of some serious help.
If I may give a big shout out to your wonderful work ethic, it's a great thing to have.
The last Backhoe I owned was a 1964 John Deere 2010 I believe, that was 20 years ago and it had the old controls but worked great. I had a few excavators after that.
Back to the story we so sidetracked, I learned a lesson in Grade School, the one were everyone sat in one circle and whispered in the ear next to them,,well, you remember the story.
You are now the last person in the circle, hearing what YOU believe the first person said is what you heard.
Now you have put a Man and his Business's reputation, well, perhaps it's really something of YOURS that is on the line IF you have made one simple mistake.
it just amazes me after reading horror story after horror story on here about members dealings with certain people in the above trades that people still get in line to deal with these certain people and then come on here crying ...oh woe is me...i got a bad deal with a certain cue maker...case maker .or table mechanic.
quality aside...cuemakers fall into one of 2 categories. those that do what they say...and those that don't.
since showman has been in the limelight lately lets use him as an example. i am a nobody in the cue collecting world but yet i have known for years that he is one of those that is not gonna do what he says he will do when he says he is gonna do it.
let me clue you guys in on why he is that way. because you people that deal with him tolerate it.
he is just like real king cobra
he is conceited
he is egotistical
he does what he wants...when he wants
he knows he is good
he knows people will tolerate his work ethic just to get one of his cues
he knows if he loses one person as a customer due to his work ethic some one else will take their spot.
deal with him or don't . he aint changing the way he is unless his customes make him change.
other threads about him have not influenced the cue buyers and i doubt if quality cues thread will either.
i just cant understand why people will put up with liars and shoddy work ethics from these 3 trades but will raise holy hell if a plumber or electrician is a few hours late and will never use his services again.
Come on guys, what should I do for the OP in Seattle in need of help? If I take on the extra work, it'll just back up the customers that have already been waiting in my services, if I try and help this person later after I get caught up with my work, maybe in 3 years or so, providing he'll wait that long, but instead, hire someone that just f#*$ s the whole thing up, so then he wants to get back on my waiting list again....only thing is, I don't know when I'll ever be back in WA again, let alone how long my waiting list is there when I do get back.
Help me out guys, so that I might be able to have the time to help this person in Seattle with his broken slate. I have tables going to California, Nevada, Iowa. ....so, who do I put off, but understand putting anyone off will create a chain reaction which will put everyone off waiting on me....which in you're opinions makes me a liar, yet if I offer to help this person in Seattle with his problem, and then can't find the time because I'm booked 3 years out....don't that make me a liar as well?....offering to help someone, then not helping them?
