What I don't get is Leon asked Tony if he could do his own version many years ago while I was at the BB shop, He called me and asked me to ask Tony! Tony said I would be tickled to death if he can do it do it I don't give a shit I'd like to see it when it's done.

Also Manzino has done that butt cap in his own way

JMW has his own way and done it see it here

Crown cues has done it in their style

That's to name a few

As far as the design, I've talked to many people who buy cues like this. They ask Leon for the design. They do so because it takes them into a cue that would be 5x Leon's price from another maker and it's affordable to them, they know the cue will play well, and it's Leon's style it's slightly different he doesn't do it exactly the same.

We could sit here and say no one should use a notched diamond , a dot, or barbell because Gus did first. But that would be foolish. Since the cue is different Leon still has to spend some time on the design on the CNC because he did not get the exact specs from BB or Vollmer or anyone else

I just didn't see any people bashing James Whites crown butt cap and I realize you guys are talking the design in general but only the Windows the same lol everyone uses Windows

I don't have a dog in this fight but if you own a black boar or Vollmer it doesn't effect your cues value or the fact you own one. So who cares at the end of the day. You do your high end cues and Leon will make his to the customers who obviously like them and ask for them. He must have a market cause he sells every cue he makes

agreed

Do your thing Leon, haters be damned

I would have to same the same, Mr. Sly love your work and if they sell and put
food on the table then more power to you.
I hope your around for a long time building these beautiful cues.

That is the exact point many of the posters are trying to make... Do "your" thing Leon.

I don't think anyone hates Leon. They are acknowledging his talent as a cuemaker and would like to see some truly original designs come out his shop.

Well that's an opinion. Leon's a grown ass man & should feel free to do whatever he wants with his talent without having to listen to the whining from the boring boar crowd now looking down at their 20 dime cues & going "damn, I could have one that looks as good & plays better for 4 dimes". I'll take the wolf brave enough to stand alone oblivious to the opinions of others over the sheep huddling around Tony's nut sack.

...again there is no issue doing tributes if you have your OWN portfolio....

Lets see Mama June walk into a modeling agency with Scarlett Johanssons headshots....;)

Just for the record... you may want to hold on to a set of knee pads... ;)

No Sir... those were facts based on comments posted in this thread. Your post, however, was opinionated.

I know quite a few Black Boar owners, and I can assure you not one of them is having buyer's remorse because of this thread.

CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG??

Of course not this is AZ Mister. Drive off the pro players, then follow that up with snide nasty remarks about cue makers with the same effect. Is it any wonder that so many cue makers do not post here?

Talk about calling the kettle black ive heard thats all you do dont you sell cues for some one else and use his money ? So tell us how worn out are your knee pads.

That's the problem.. "you've heard".. I spend MY money always have, but that's not the point. How about you bring yourself and who you "heard" it from and stand in front of me, and we can discuss it.

But there is not pot, or kettle situation here.

Phil, no one is hating or trying to drive off anyone. Frankly, I doubt whether Leon could be driven off. This is certainly nothing new for him. And as far as other cue makers, many wouldn’t last here a week. This thread alone would get most banned.

I would think you of all people can understand the importance design plays in a product. It sells. If it didn’t, Leon wouldn’t be cutting and pasting other maker’s work and we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Think about it, here is someone who cares zero about your hard efforts to get where you are today and sees nothing wrong at bettering his own business at your expense. That is his bottom line and he has been very clear about it.

Your comments have been dead on in this thread. It's obvious the direction that Leon wants to take as a cuemaker at the moment. Anything else that we say from both points of view will just be arguing. My point was never intended to pick a side. I just want to see the art of cues progress from a cuemaker that has the capability to do so.

Lets set this straight

I've been watching Leon's work and In my opinion does nice cues and is a respectable craftsman. What I see in this cue is a copy of a Blackboar without the precision and detail like BB has. Like all his cue's they are copies of another cue maker. If he is fine with that so be it. All the cue makers do what they are comfortable with. (I take this back)

I've not once seen any issue with his quality or reputation.
Eric, please explain to me in more detail about my cue being a exact copy....or if you want to talk about it feel free to call me i'm very easy to get along with 410-827-4966
my true opinion the only one who can make and exact copy of blk boar is tony himself.
1- why because he has his own geometry and cad drawings for his own cue designs.
the cue i got posted up might look (similar) but not identical.why because the cue was built by me ....not tony.
personally i don't think theirs anything wrong with building a cue with a similar look to another cue 'why' because it will never be the same identical cue as the original.
i'm not bending arms here or begging anyone to buy a custom made cue from me!!
i'm going to keep building cues for customers how they want them built i'm really sorry if this offends anyone.
