Many thanks for the great ideas. I think I'm going to tell them the proper name of the game is 5-ball (Keep It Simple Stupid!)

I've floated the idea of spotting a ball penalty for fouls and I think I'll try again. The problem is that there's no motivation to play safe; if player 1 plays safe and the player 2 fouls, player 3 gets BIH, not me. With a ball spot at least player 1 and 3 benefit. It's also a way to challenge the player with the fewest balls left. (We play BIH behind the headstring since you've only got five balls to pocket)

Thanks and I hope you enjoy the game. The men that taught me this would get highly PO'd if you left the person following you a shot so for me just starting out it helped me understand how to play safe.

I wouldn't play BIH if a player can't contact his own ball.. In 3 player games fouls should be played as the CB lays.. BIH behind the line only after a CB scratch.

I like the rule that spots up a ball after any foul, and only play BIH behind the headstring after a scratch.

But wouldn't this encourage intentional fouls like one-pocket and 14.1? If I'm not going to make contact with my ball, why shouldn't I just "tip" the CB to a spot where you can't make contact either...and so on, until all the balls are spotted in a line behind the foot-spot :boring2:

Actually they just called it cut-throat. :smile:

Since it's reverse Cut Throat maybe we should call it Throat Cut. (it might help us attract the violent-video-game players)

If you pay money for each one of your balls that remain on the table, you won't just be tipping the CB. That will cost you big time.

You can play safeties, but if you foul by not contacting a rail, you owe a ball. If you already have 5 balls on the table you owe another.

In one game a player made a ball, scratched and spotted. He then owed 1 with 5 balls on the table. That's how we played last night.

At $1 a ball it's possible to make $10 in one game, but no one did it last night. The big winner left with about 30 bucks in his pocket.

Post #17 is how we paid the winner... Add a ball for any foul (not contacting your ball, not hitting a rail after contact, or a CB scratch)

Instead of Screw your neighbor it could be called Love Yourself.

Along those lines, I'd call the game "Masturbation" and see people look at you funny when you go up to the two other guys and say "Hey guys, how about some Masturbation?"

I like the KISS method (keep it simple stupid)... We played the game again and we just called it Five.
