It puzzles me why many smokers don't think that their smoke bothers anyone yet whenever I see a car with the window cracked it is a sure bet that that person is smoking and there is no one else in the car. If the smoke is so great why do they want it to escape?

D3P, you mentioned smoking restrictions in many places and you included VFW, which I think is a non-profit organization. In N.C., the smoking law has exempted non-profits such as the VFW, ELKS, MOOSE organizations and even Country Clubs from the law. Many of these organizations have gained membership. There aren't too many places where you can have a drink AND smoke....these place you can!

Country Club

The law in NC allows"country clubs" to be exempt from the smoking ban.
Apparently Don has done what was required for his establishment to qualify as such. Most likely fat cat political types had no intention of not smoking at their county clubs and built this provision into the law. Don was smart enough to be aware of this exemption. This is how most things get done in NC by our lawmakers. Its do as we say not do as we do.

Here in Maine, the private clubs were (are) exempt as well. Over time, many of them adopted no-smoking policies as well. The club I belong to, for instance. It was about three years after the ban in public places took effect, but the membership itself voted to ban smoking at the club. Seems many of them were quite used to the way it was everywhere else... many of these folks smokers themselves.

I have not smoked a Cigarette in 2010 as per my New Years Resolution. But I did not quit because of Political Correctness or Health issues. I quit because They raised the tax on a carton of cigarette another $ 20.00 a carton. I still want to smoke a cigarette right now, But I Like not spending the money for cigarette more than the smoke.

I promise not to be a B1tchy reformed smoker. So go ahead and smoke where ever you want. I enjoy the smell of tobacco occasionally.

the public smoking ban is the biggest crock of shit...period.
the law itself is bull....15 feet from a door outside??? thats every spot on the sidewalk.
they dont really enforce it like Nazi's but they could if they wanted too....and thats the point.

Where are all these non smokers that were gonna come out in droves to support Taverns/clubs/pool halls/Lounges/Bar and grills....where did they go????

here in IL smokings been banned for over 2 years and i still havent seen these non-smokeing complainers/law makers drop one dime into these places since the bann. They never even patronized the places that they banned smoking from in the first place.(their to busy hanging at their local "alternative establishment" probably.

state gov passed the laws because the got a nice little incentive from the insurance companys and such.

i dont mind smoking outside...and i certainly dont mind people not smoking right next to me while im eating at a resturaunt....i can understand no smoking in resturaunts.....but bars/ lounges/ clubs / halls/ vfw...no. it should be the property owners decision...if he wants to make smokers go outside or have a smoking section, It could as simple as if you dont like the smoke go down the street to the place where the owner doenst allow it.

Smoking ban, liquor taxes, strict enforcement of DUI laws, have choked the bar buisiness. Its down at least 30% all over.

with Just about every state having a bann on smoking of sorts...whats gonna be the next pea brained project to **** the american people...Pretty soon the price of a beer is gonna cost so much...no bar will beable to stay open...everyone will have to start opening speakeazys again....if you dont like drinking and you dont like smoking hell maybee you dont like eating Meat....Thats fine, but dont force your Ideas onto every one in america. its pretty sad how a few crybabies can ruin everything ....

this smoking law is completely un-american.....its borderline communist.

I just can't wait to the end of the year when all the lawmakers are wondering why the revenue from the cig tax is way under what they projected when NC raised the state tax to $1 a pack and then passed the smoking ban.

Ohio Smoking ban is a joke..

If it's like Ohio's it wont last. The smoking is just as bad at my pool leagues after the ban as it was before the law went into affect. It doesn't matter how many times an establishment has been reported nothing ever gets done about it.

That's so true Joe.. The law in Ohio is a joke, they are still smoking in EVERY bar that my league plays in. What's the point of passing a law if no one tries to enforce it?

What a crock of crap you just ranted about..... and if non-smokers are crybabies, what the heck is the above 8 paragraphs that you wined about ??? Irony, you got to love it. Oh, you have to stand outside to have a smoke,,, BOO FREAKIN HOO !!! DO that for another 30 years and we'll call it even.

The non-smokers are inside just like they were before the ban. Have not seen any changes in any of the poolrooms or bars that I play in, but of course the economy has changed it some over the past year, but not the smoking ban.

Yeah, enforceing drunk drivers off the road has really hurt the bar business, but for fun lets say you are 100% correct... TOUGH
Yeah, lets keep drunk drivers on the road so a bar owner can get a little richer, that seems reasonable.

You don't want "OUR" ideas forced on you, but non-smokers were forced to inhale smoke in bars for the last 200 freaking years !!! HELLO !! Like you said, if you don't like it, then stay home and smoke, heck, I don't care if you burn !!

Yeah, very "communist" to protect the health of workers, and customers from ignorant fools who think they can poison anyone and everyone just to satisfy their own personal addiction. GROW UP DUDE......
I guess we should just let BP Refinery dump more toxins into Lake Michigan because they have been crying about it for the last few years, and I guess if we dont' like it WE should just leave because god forbid the goverment ban on more toxins in lake michigan infringes on the BP bottom line..... sounds like you have been drinking from Lake Michigan lately !!!

Oh, it is completely Un- American?? Please.... yes, laws to protect its citizens is just so Un-American
Lets recall all;
Building and electrical codes
FDA
Seat belts
Allow asbesto in buildings again, so the Asbetos folks can make a profit.
Or any other pollution controls that to protect rivers, lakes, etc over the past decades.
Baby toys with lead in them... damn government won't even let the Chinese make a profit !
Drinkng Water Standards
Shall I go on ???

Well said,

i understand your vue.

i said i dont mind smoking outside. and the air quality has improved greatly in non smoking establishments. Its not the actual bann on smoking that bothers me, its the way they went about it. Here they made it ok for smoking in the casinos and excluded every other buisiness owner from being able to make the best choice for themselves depending on their situation...
if they dont want people to smoke then they should just quit selling cigs in the stores, but i guess they love all the big money they make off of taxing Tabacco products so thats not gonna happen anytyme soon.
i drink tap water....drink it every day,my whole life, im not paying $1.50 for bottle water unles i have too...they put flouride and other stuff in tap water thats good for your teeth, and they print up little reports on water quality and mail them to residents so you can see for yourselve weather the water is something you think you should drink and such.

my tap water comes from the mississippi river...trust me its just as dirty as Lake Michigan...... they say not to eat certain species of fish more than 2 times a month because of toxins like Mercury and such in the meat...

dont get me started on the enviroment....im a fisherman and a hunter
ive donated to NWTF, ducks unlimited, Pheasants Forever... i cant stand people that dump or litter all over the place.

you ever heard of living lands and waters http://www.livinglandsandwaters.org/
