Hi Holly,

Do you have to be a U.S. Citizen or does Permanent Resident status also qualify?

Thanks.

Bernie Pettipiece.

Hi Bernie,

Sorry dear friend, but must be citizen. The reason for this is from a long range perspective as spots for the top two finishers at nationals will be representing the US to WPA sanctioned world championships. You know I respect you and your game tremendously, but you're not eligible if you only have residency status. It was a tough but required decision we had to make.

Three more locations and dates were set up today. I'll have all the details on the forums Monday. Thanks Everyone!

Holly,

You're breakin' my heart:frown:

I thought straight pool was the "international" language of billiards.

I guess I'll just have to do it the hard way again, and try through one of Charlie W's qualifiers:grin:

Thanks.

Bernie P.

Hi Bernie,

You were one of the people I know that while we have to stick to policy and they are for a good reason, it does break my heart too that you are not eligible.

I am talking to one room owner in AZ to set up qualifiers in 14.1, 9 and 10 ball. Attempts to set up something in your home room has been unproductive and I decided to go elsewhere.

Hope all is well,
Holly

Hey Kev,
How tough are these. Is it something I should consider if money is available? Would these be on scale with the 14and1.com Nationals - unhandicapped obviously?

Sorry I didn't make it to the last 10-ball tourney, probably won't be at the one on Easter Sunday either. I am hoping to get down to Pittsfield in the next week or two.

Hey Steve, these qualifiers are open to anyone that wants to play. You can pretty much bank on that there will be strong competition.

See you soon

Great news.

Bobby Hunter and Jeff Carter are working on all the tables. Bobby did about 4 of them as of Monday and they play superb. I heard Jeff was back in town and the two of them were working on more of them a few days ago. They should all be playing nice for the tournament.

Yes, John at Red Shoes was telling me the work they've been putting into the tables. They will be sweet for the upcoming tournaments.

I should know this but....

Since these qualifiers are also being called state Chmpionships, are they restricted to residents of the respective states??

thanks.

Dennis, I can answer that one for you, the answer is no, any USA citizen is eligible at all qualifiers.

Kev

Thanks Kevin :) yes, open to all U.S citizens regardless of state of residency.

I apologize if this question has already been asked, but are you allowed to play a second qualifier if you've already won one?

Sounds like a tough decision. I am a biiiiiig believer in not letting already-qualified people play in qualifiers, but some of these tournaments are being called state championships. So if a player wins the 2009 NY State Championship, here would be your two options:

1) Bar him from future qualifiers. This means he can't also become the 2009 Connecticut State Champion. Not good.
2) Allow him to play in the CT tournament. This hurts everyone in the CT tournament who is knocked out of contention by someone who already has a spot. Not good.

Just wondering if this has been addressed?

Thanks,
Steve

Steve, thanks for your question and a valid one. Players are allowed to play in more than 1 qualifier even if they already earned a spot (at least in the 3 qualifiers I am running anyhow), but cannot win another qualifier spot of course. If they did win then the spot gets handed down to second place etc..But I don't want to exclude a player from trying to win a title if they choose too. The qualifier entry fees are the source for paying the $350 for the qualifier spots so there is no prize money to speak of at qualifiers themselves, so thats a non factor as well.

Kev
