The 8-ball is different in that you don’t have to play position for another ball after it. A good tip is to play position for the 8 ball and then play position from the 8-ball as well. Usually for a safety or at least difficult leave for your opponent.

Imagine yourself out in the middle of the sea and your boat sinks. Your going to want the best lifejacket available. Fundamentals is the lifejacket to pool. Afterwards you still have to swim to land, but without a lifejacket it isn't possible.

I don’t believe we’ve ever met. That advice was given to me by a great player and farmer in Alamosa, CO in 1995 or so. Made a lot of sense to me so I started doing it immediately and my 8-ball game jumped instantly.
