No stores sells them nearby. I could buy one today but I want to be sure. Which joint out of the united and wavy has the nicest *thunk* feel to them?

If u like a stiffer hit with lots of power transfer, go united.

If u prefer feedback, more feel n a slightly less stiff hit, go wavvy.

Pick ur poison, nonetheless all mezz cues hits stiff n solid regardless of joint.

I just sold 4 Mezz EC7 cues, all had united joint and WX700 shafts, they all hit virtually the same, nice and solid with lower deflection. I actually sold all 4 in one night at the pool hall. Pick the wood you like and off you go. For me, the African Blackwood model maybe hit the best out of them, it had lovely grain, and it is at the lowest price point available. Think it's called the EC7 - BW

You cannot go wrong!!

Go with the united joint. It will take any 5/16-14 thread joint. The wavy joint, you'll only have two options for shafts. Mezz or OB. With the united, you could use any aftermarket shaft you'd like. Also, the hybrid shafts from Mezz are not for everyone. If you have a good stroke, and can generate power fairly easily, you'll love it. If you poke stroke, or just baby the ball around the table, the carbon core will prove to be a little too strong for you.

I'm trying to find something with a non laminated shaft.

If you are worried about hit feel, Tiger X Pro are great, contact Mike Webb and have him make one of his to fit a Schon, Players HXT has a great hit feel and is cheap, there are quite a few other good makers that make solid maple LD shafts. OB is good also, even though it's a multi-part shaft, the hit is way better than Predator.

An old friend that used the Mezz Hybrid Pro II (attached to an Espiritu cue that he had) told me that it was an extremely stiff hitting shaft (with zero flex), and he did not like it. I think he said something like it feeling like a steel rod that would not flex in the least. That description reminded me of a new Predator Z shaft that I once had (and used for maybe about 15 minutes), and I really did not like it.

Yeah, the OB Classic shaft I really liked, and I thought it hit very similar to a regular maple shaft. I remember thinking it had a hit similar to a Mcdermott. A soft type of hit. It was really nice in my opinion.

I like the OB plus classic as well .. but actually it has a firmer hit to the softer hit of the 1+ or 2+.

Not particularly a McDermott fan though.

I highly recommend the original Predator pre cat 314 shafts (like the one in this listing, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Joss-Pro-Se...602203?hash=item4b1407cadb:g:8VoAAOSwTM5Y0KV0). They are kind of rare, and have not been made in a very long time. You can still find them pretty often on the used market, for maybe around $150 on average (but some sellers wants $200+ for theirs). I think many would agree that they are the best hitting LD shafts ever made, and to me, they hit much different then any other LD shaft that I have ever tried out. I think most of them came with a 5/16x14 joint, so they would fit perfect on a Schon.

No comparison between the two. A Z isn't stiff. They have a bit of flex in them. I played with a Mezz with an EX Pro shaft. Love it. It isn't a steel rod. It's just stiff. Like the Hybrid Pro 2.

The pre cat Predator shaft is no different than the cat Predator shaft. It's the first gen Predator shaft. And I'd love to know who has said they're the best playing low deflection shaft out there. They hit dead, and had one of the deadest ferrule materials I've had the misfortune of playing with, and working with.

If you don't want to go with a Mezz cue, the other suggestion I'd make for a one piece low deflection shaft is the new True shaft from Samsara. A friend of mine just picked one up. Great feel. And they play incredibly well.

Any McDermott cue with their G-Core shaft is what you're looking for. Or use any cue butt and have the G-Core matched to it !!!

Hi there.

I'm looking for a great quality cue with the satifying hit of a Schon and with the deflection of a predator.

Preferably one piece maple shaft. 12.5mm

Which brands make cues like that?

Thanks
Mezz comes to mind for sure.

No, not many would agree they are the best hitting LD shafts ever made, not close. The are fairly collectible though, but a bit like pre-flag masters chalk or bar table 8 ball rules, lots of passed down information, and quite a bit of it is incorrect LOL

They do have a different taper and ferrule than later Predator shafts. I owned a long ferrule early Predator, did not find it any better and worse than most other LD shafts. To me it actually felt like a standard Meucci shaft, very whippy, made me think I'd break it if I hit hard with it. I sold it for about $100 to a local player and I don't think he used it much.
