Need advice on Delta 13 racks.

Balls 1000% for me. (I actually have both balls and racks of my own). I find even the cheap $10 plastic racks work great if the balls are new. If the balls are all differnt sizes, even the fancy $150 racks won't work, in my experience.

I actually bought a set of balls and the Delta Elite rack at the same time, and had a special vinyl case made to hold the balls and the rack. I'd leave it in my car all the time, incase I got into a big one pocket game. The whole reason I bought my set is because a tight rack is critical in preventing the corner ball from leaking out in a one pocket break.

Now that I have my home table, I took the ball and rack set out of the car and use it on my table.

Why didn't you just by their super sweet case and balls set up?

Not to hijack this thread but what do people believe is more important, the rack or the balls?

This is actually a really good point. You can't get a tight rack with a delta or MBR if the balls are different sizes,
which is very common in most pool rooms. You will get gaps that cannot be fixed without shuffling balls around,
which is very tedious.

That being said, recently I got to watch Brandon Shuff in two 9b tournaments, both rack your own.
Using no magic rack and worn balls he would pop in the wing ball every time with almost a hard
stop shot, even though one of the pool rooms has very irregular balls and shitty broken wooden racks.
He didn't sweat over the rack for hours either. So either he plays the gaps or he has figured out how
to eliminate them pretty quickly and easily.

Maybe it's neither the balls nor the rack, and what matters most is the racker (and breaker).

Yes, and yes. I've noticed over the years, while working on my break, that the quality of how the balls are racked, is just important or more important than your break shot. A bad breaker can make balls with a good racker...

A good alternative carry-case option

That is a REALLY NICE case for the ball set and rack! Wow.

For those that may not have access to a craftsman to make such a case, there is a workaround (I personally have done this).

Go to http://masterrack.com/products.html and on the right side of the page, you'll see that they offer a good-quality "pleather" carry case that the Delta-13 rack products fit into PERFECTLY:

It's heavy duty, of good quality, and I can attest to its suitability of use due to the fact I'd been using this case to carry my Delta-13 Elite for more than 5 years now. The only downside is that it has "MasterRack" stitched on its side, but you can color the threading with a black Sharpie to make it less noticeable.

Hope this is helpful!

The Regular rack is made in a completely different fashion. It is cast aluminum. THat means the aluminum is melted, placed in a mold, and when it cools, its in the shape of the rack. I do NOT know if the rack is then machined to tighter tolerances, after it comes out of the mold, or if the mold finish is the final process. Also of note, this rack is not made in the USA, if that makes any difference to you.

The Regular models I saw at a commercial room were all scratched up. The paint or whatever they coated them with had all been chipped off.

My Elite model is still looking like new, however, after I saw the damage to the Regular model in the pool room, I was super careful with mine. I don't know if I treated it roughly like the pool room does theirs, if it would also chip or not.

I love it that you are so detail oriented!

I never knew the difference between them and was ready to get the regular rack, but I don't want to buy Asian-made cast products. I'll continue to save my pennies for the real thing.

FWIW I just went to their website and they said the regular racks have a powder coating compared to the hard anodizing that is found on the Elite. Yes, powder coating is prone to chipping. It also has a thickness to it, which means that areas with missing powder coat might allow balls to spread slightly outward, basically defeating the purpose of a high-precison rack.

EDIT:

Heh, heh... I should have read the rest of the posts before making this one. Seems like all my points have already been addressed.:o

You won't have to save those pennies. The "Select" product (which, model-wise, is in-between the regular cast-rack and the high-end Elite model) has all of the same precision construction features of the Elite model (including anodizing), yet is not much more than the cast model in price.

Now, it may not be not enough to affect the rack tightness, but why pay at all if you aren't getting a product that is vastly superior to a regular wooden rack? Especially when there are precision wooden racks out there that are quiet sounding and quite beautiful to look at as well.

On both counts -- exactly! I think the "Select" model is what you're looking for:

Don't forget the leather inserts:

I will come back to this thread and do a full write up. Mine should be here tomorrow or the next day. I'll let you guys know exactly what I think.

It's like I tell everyone that plays pool with me in my basement. You can't play pool without a bright red anodized aluminum rack with real python skin inserts. It's just common damn sense!!!

Aw man! Are you sure the pink one to support a breast cancer cure isn't more amenable? :p

If you're playing in a poolroom would you first spend money on your own set of balls or on a $150 rack?

There is a guy who plays at the room that i frequent that always walks in with his delta 13 and proceeds to rack the room balls which are far from perfect themselves with scuffs and other visible imperfections and it just seems weird to me. If i was that serious about it i'd rather have a pristine set of balls and use a rooms wooden rack.

You are absolutely spot on. I bought my Elite because I had a brand new set of Centennials. I bought the Centennials because I just had new cushions and Simonis installed and the old yellow Centennials would not work properly on new cloth. Now I just need to find a deal on some Aramiths so I can rotate balls.

Aren't the Centennials made by Aramith now? aren't they basically the same?

I know it was discussed before, but I can't find the thread now.

What's the differences between the racks. The regular, select, and Elite. I just want a good product, is the Elite really worth the extra $80??? I mean if it is, i'll pay, but they all look very similar.

Looks like the select isn't rounded inside the triangle, and the Elite has removalable corners? Not sure why. but other than that they all look about the same.

What a great discussion! It took me a while to catch up and it seems as though you got all of your questions answered. I will tell you a couple things about our Select rack. It was created a couple months ago after we purchased a new CAD software. It is made of 6061 aluminum, anodized with ergonomic grip just like the Elite rack. It has 3 sleek sides and is offered in black and grey. This rack came out to put a low cost, high quality product out in the market.

Although, the Elite rack is measured from our CMM machine to make sure it is a perfect triangle, the Select racks are coming out just as great as the Elites are without the measurement.

A cool tid bit: Our racks identify undersized balls. When your racking and the balls are spinning, place those balls at the back/bottom of the rack for a tighter rack. Tighter rack = more balls in the pockets!

If you have any other questions let me know or email me at sales@executivebilliards.com. I hope this helps!

First time I'm seeing this, thanks.... I think when I bought the rack several years ago, Delta 13 did not have any other products like they do now. They were brand new to the pool world.

I work in a consumer products company, and asked a favor of one of my coworkers in the softgoods design department to sew me a case:)

I'm curious, are the corners of the Elite and/or Select rack dowelled in place before assembly? I'm kind of wanting to take mine apart now, but I read the screws have loctite on them. Any chance of showing a picture of the unassembled parts?

A curious engineer here:)

I second that. Very cool product, hoping to get mine today!!!

I got my delta-13 elite rack in the mail today and I love it. As far as the sound goes its not that loud, it sounds like quality to me. Great rack.

I made it to the pool room tonight that has Delta 13 "Regular" racks on its tables. Below are two pictures. Now remember, this is in a commercial room where everyone just throws the balls in....
