Need Florida Mechanic recommendations

Need to find out who are the best 2 or 3 mechanics in Central Florida, and if noone knows any, in the whole state.

I'd like like recommendations from satisified "player" customers only. Sorry, mechanics.. But you know how it is.. Anyone can come on here and ask me to email or call them. If they come referred, then it's a little easier to make a decision.

I'm the one renovating my garage, and am planning on putting in a Diamond table. My wife has plans for the garage, and is getting in contact with the contractor now, so it will be a little while before we are ready to get the table in.

Just wanted to get a few names to mull over.

Thanks!

Russ

We are a retailer. George does not buy from us as he just does recovering and moving work but he refers his customers to us for cloth purchases. We've spoken with several of them after the fact and heard only good comments.

Florida is a big state and I doubt you will find any sort of ranking mechanism to determine who is best (everyone has an opinion - just like in forums). The better way to determine a competent mechanic is to ask whoever you contact for references.

I don't want a ranking mechanism. I want a player who has personally had a great job done on a player's table. But it seems that none of the players in Florida post on here.. :D

Even if someone from FL posted here it would still be one or two persons opinions. (Joe is best. Bob is best. etc) You originally posted "who are the best 2 or 3 mechanics" - even the guys name I gave you is based on good comments from his customers but that doesn't neccessarily make him one of the best. I'd guess you might know other people with tables in your social circle. Ask them for recommendations. Short of that check your local table dealers. You can get some idea of their ability by checking how their floor models are setup.

I'm confused again....Russ, I thought you were getting a Diamond ProAm 9 foot table?, because if that be the case, the table will already be recovered, and who ever delivers it will set it up. If you're getting a Diamond Professional, that's a different story. Look at your past posts, you've made it clear you're getting a ProAm...that's why I'm confused I guess.

Glen,

I made arrangements to pay Diamond for that table, and the whole amount wouldn't go through on one credit card. They called my wife to make other arrangements. She passed them on to me. I tried to email them back again to arrange for a check to be sent in, and never got an answer. Figured they must have enough business, so I just dropped it, and decided to continue work on the garage preparing for renovation. Wife is contacting contractors now for that.

I decided to just keep an eye out for deals or wait until work is almost done on the garage. Lucky I did so, as Rodney Morris is selling his Diamond in preparation to move to Texas. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to pick up that table from him.

Russ, I think you need to speak to someone about your table at Diamond, as you do have an order in for a Diamond table, you don't have a dime paid for it as a down payment, not on your credit card or otherwise. I think if you speak to Julie, she'll let you know she's made several attempts to contact your wife, but to no avail. I assure you that IF you had actually put ANY money down on a Diamond table, it would have been applied to your order...maybe that's why I'm so confused when I read your posts....you don't have a table sale secured with Diamond, other than a proposed written invoice waiting for a financial commitment from you to seal in the sale.

IF you have any questions, call Diamond, or maybe talk to your wife, as she seems to be in charge of your finances while your gone.

Glen,

I told the people I was in contact with at Diamond that I was the point of contact. When they called my wife anyway, she asked them to email me. When they did not do so, I emailed them. Three times. I figured they were probably busy with some tournament or another, so as I said, I just keep an eye out for deals. My wife was up front with the Diamond rep she talked to. She is not the one to talk to on this table. I am. The most she would have to do with this is writing a check for me.

Glen, it's cool. Don't worry about it. In the end, all that matters is I get a sweet playing Diamond table. The whole thing will take at least 6 months to come together, so if I do not get Rodney's table, I can still go back to Diamond for a deal.

You gotta admit.. Having a table that used to belong to a former U.S. Open winner definitely has the cool factor going for it.

Trust me, when the credit card did not go through, (mainly because I do not regularly make purchases that large on it, though it has a high enough limit..Visa probably blocked the transaction..) I did attempt to contact Diamond personally to arrange other payment options, and noone returned either my emails or PMs here on AZ. Whaddaya want me to do?:D

Russ, I think you can see why I'm so confused, I'm sure that if you read back your following statements, you will be as well.

I've changed my plans, and after I come back from Iraq, I am closing off the garage, carpeting it, and putting in my Diamond table. Saves me a crapload of money over paying for an addition, and gets me outta Iraq quicker, too.

Glen,

Yup, I want a Pro/Am instead for the price you quoted. I haven't put down the deposit yet, and I emailed Paul Smith asking to change the order, I haven't gotten a response yet. Not unusual, considering it's the holidays. Considering the Pro/Ams have Dymondwood rails, I think the price you quoted me in a good buy. I'm just waiting on the email from Diamond now.

Thanks,

Russ

I've already put down half on a Diamond Pro/Am table with matching Diamond light. I am currently getting a quote on a set of matching spectator chairs.

Glen,

I gave my CC# to the Diamond folks, and just after that is when I posted I had put down half. CC payment did not go through because my bank is screwy like that on big transactions sometimes. I have been a victim of credit fraud before, so if I forget to clear a big transaction with VISA first, it won't go through.

Anyways, I am back in touch wirh Brian, and the current package is:

9' Pro am with new Simonis 860 cloth.....1 piece slate, standard dymondwood rails and ball return.
(26" X 102") Matching Oak w/Cherry Satin Light unit.
Super Aramith Pro Balls
Matching Oak triangle
Delivered and installed.

On a side note: The Diamond ball return system sounds loud on the Accu-Stats videos I have. Is there any way to quiet them down?

Actually it's pretty quiet compared to the normal wire runner ball return system on most all other tables...and a lot faster.
