Need help authenticating older unmarked Joss West

I picked up an older Joss West. I bought it being told
it was a Joss West even though it was unmarked. I took it to cue maker Mike Johnson of Jensen cues and he identified it as an unmarked Joss West. I read in the Blue Book of cues that the 83'-84' cues weren't marked . If anyone could guide me in the direction to get it authenticated, it would be greatly appreciated.

If it is the 3 point cue on eBay I think it is an older JOSS cue from the 1970s.

This one, right?

If so,it looks like a Dan Janes "JOSS" more than a Bill Stroud "Joss West" to me ...

Could be from plenty of reasons. Refinish, worn off, or it never could have been on there to begin with. That ringwork was used more during the early 70s I think, so it could have been from the time he didn't mark them. The wrap also looks like Cortland so the cue is probably pretty old.

Edit: The short points & thick veneers make me think its an older early 70s cue also.

It is the same exact cue tduncan!!!! I worked with this guy John installing satellites in the Baton Rouge, La. area. I never knew he owned this cue. Wow!!!! Thank you for showing this thread to me

Yes I Am. Right now I'm trying to get it authenticated. I've got the history on it after some time. This cue is 40 years old. I bought it from a friend who I trust dearly. In 2005 he saw Dan Janes at Valley Forge. He showed Dan the cue. Dan said it was a 73. He made it just after him and Billy split. I'm currently trying to get in touch with Dan to give me like a certificate of authenticity. I know I'll be able to get top dollar for it once I get that. People don't know the full history of Joss. When they see that the cue is unmarked, they get suspicious

I emailed Dan@josscues.com. I haven't gotten a response yet. Does anyone else have a contact for Dan Janes or someone who can authenticate this old unmarked Joss?

Call them and ask them the best way for you to authenticate the cue. Then, they will ask for you to email the pix, etc, and will be expecting the email. I am sure that they get hundreds of emails a day...yours might get over-looked.

Agreed, Dan has always been gracious looking at/authenticating their older cues.
