Crown Cues' 2nd cuemaker is currently stationed at the Jacksonville Naval Base in Florida and is looking for local pool halls. Where are the best places to hang out? He's also interested in what kind of tournaments the different places are holding. Any help??? Thanks!!

He asked if there are any areas to avoid, too.

I think the nicest room close to him would be Bank Shots on Beach Blvd. That is the room where the Predator World 10-Ball Championship was held last summer. Very nice room. Six Pockets is also across the road from them on Beach. Then there's University Billiard Club on University Blvd. which is the room I play league out of.

Blanding Billards on Blanding Blvd. is known for action (open 24 hrs) but it's not an establishment I care to frequent LOL.

One nice thing about this forum is that when a person travels to another state, they can ask all their AZ buddies where's the best place to play and you guys are great to chime in with all the needed info.

This forum has it's problems, but threads like this always make me happy I'm a part of it!

If I ever get to Jacksonville, I'll know right where I need to go!

Looking for tournaments

Our son just called and said he's looking for tournaments to play in the Jacksonville, FL area. He hasn't had much of a chance to get to town since he was first stationed there. He and a friend are really wanting to check out some tournaments, now.

$300 added, $10 entry fee, 40+ players every week? That might be the best weekly tournament in Florida. I bet you guys get stone champions playing in there every Sunday. I wish I lived closer than Miami...

Bankshots on Sundays at 2pm, 40+ players with $300 added and great food: www.playatbankshots.com

Other than that the city is pretty dead, send me a PM if you have any questions about anything.

Jim said thanks for the info and the link. He wanted to know how much the table rates are. I didn't spot that on the website.

I'd pm you, but I don't get a lot of time on the computer and I always forget to check and see if I have any messages.

Bankshots is a great tourney, especially for $10 entry, wide variety of players but definitely some very, very good players at the top.

Little more of a drive, but Top Hat Game Room, in the Julington Creek area, also has Saturday tournaments for $10 entry, usually get 20 - 30 players. Not as many top names in the city, but still good competition. 8 ball most weekends, but 3rd weekend of every month it's 9 ball. I think they still have a Tuesday night 9 ball tourney as well, $10, just never go in there on Tuesdays so not 100% sure if it's still going on. Website is www.tophatgameroom.com.

and you're not kidding either. not only poolwise, but the city really is shut for fun. i have never experienced anything close to it in my whole. thanks to a tip from blackjack, i had a short wobble to and from bankshots. the place can handle all categories of pool players, and do so very well.

Again

you can go to http://www.google.com

Search for 'Billiard rooms in Jacksonville, Florida', then click on 'maps' top left, and you will get a map of Jacksonville with colored flags of all the billiard rooms in Jacksonville. Click on any one of the flags for more information.

This can be done for anything in any city.

Finally!

Well, Jim finally got out to Bank Shots last weekend and said to tell everyone that he's planning to be back this coming Sunday afternoon. He's hoping to meet some of you guys up there, before he's deployed. You can find a picture of him at http://www.crowncues.biz/second.html

Bank Shots is a great place to play. I've been there a few times as they play host to the Florida Open. Not only do they have nice tables to play on, but their staff and waitstaff are friendly and helpful, and having travelled to many pool halls in the past ten years, I can tell you that is not always the case. I always enjoy visiting Jacksonville thanks to them :)

I completely agree.

Jeff Scott has a nice room with great tables and a friendly staff. I've played there many times and I've never been disappointed. Whatever they charge for the tables is well worth the price IMO.

Just played your step-son I believe last Sunday in the tournament, can't remember his name because I am horrible with names but remember his cues!! Very nice guy and decent shooter, I liked the masse cue he had on him.

Pretty cool to have another cue maker in the area, do you do repairs also?

He said he went last week and the people there were great, the place was great and the competition was everything we had heard it was. He really enjoyed himself. He wasn't too sure if anyone from the forum was there, so he asked me to let everyone know he'll be there this Sunday. I think he's looking for some real good competition and just to get to know some folks from the forum, before he is deployed. Maybe some of the forum members down that way can stop in this Sunday and say "Hey!"

Let us know if any of you get to meet him and how he does in the tournament.
