Need reasonably good house cues

I need to get two reasonably good house cues. I looked at Dufferin (60") for 40.00 each but it appears they do not have a pro taper. I would like to get something like this. Nothing fancy, natural wood, maple, four points, and good quality. I would pay about $100.00 each.

Recommendations would be appreciated.

I think Cuetec makes the best house cues, believe it or not. They are actually tapered for playability instead of durability, and they play really good.

But they don't have the traditional four point full splice look you want.

I bet you any local pool room would sell you two random sticks off the wall. You could pick a couple of fat ones and either sand them down to your liking or take them to a cue maker and have it tapered the exact way you wanted.

I actually like Cuaba's recommendation. He's right. Cuetec makes one fine hitting one piece. It is not traditional looking, but you sacrifice that for the long lasting durability and the performance. It really does hit well.

Thanks for the help. I will be seeing a friend tonight at his restaurant where he has several cutec house cues and see what he says. I even get to try them out first.

One piece house cues

I strongly second the CUETEC recommendation.

You can get good quality one-piece CUETEC house cues at Mueller Sporting Goods, online, for $25 each. Less if you buy 3 or more. They are listed under "miscellaneous cues" and come in 3 or 4 colors.

Good luck shopping.

Call Schmelke and ask nicely if they can make them for you. 1-800-850-8832. They do not show taper options on their spliced wood house cue, but they do offer taper options on two piece cues, and may help you with a custom-house-cue.

I use a few of their sneaky petes with a variety of butt-woods as house cues, but they are a bit more than your target price (not much tho).

Every time I've ardered a sneaky they've been absolutely great (both cue and company).

Joe,
Ten years ago I went to the Conte pool supply in Upstate NY. The let me look through dozens of Dufferns. I picked a 18 and 19 with nice striaght shaft wood. Put LePro's on them and everyone is happy. You can sand in any taper you want.

my 2 cents........Paul

Huebler house cues

A local room here used to have Huebler house cues. They were very nice, pro taper, great hit. He said they cost him like $50 each.

Agreed, Schmelke would be a great place to start. I have been awfully impressed with their products now versus twenty years ago.

wallabuskas

pick 2 straight dufferins
have them tapered to taste by a cue maker
voila - wallabuskas

$100 each! that seems high. For $45 you can get a very nice sneaky pete cue. I have played with the Action sneaky pete, and it has a standard shaft taper, and looks good. A very simple standard house cue - although it is two-piece.

I also use both one piece schmelke's with the bocote butt for house cues, and a schmelke cocobolo sneaky for a house cue. Call them and tell them what you want as far as the taper goes.

A "house cue" is a one piece cue and is not easily transported. Because there is no joint good house cues can have some of the best playing characteristics. I have heard it said that some cue makers strive to get the playability of a good house cue when they design the playing characteristics of a custom cue.

I like a good house cue with a little flair to it but like any cue they are difficult to come buy because the price is usually lower and the demand is not high.

After checking with my friend I found that his cues were not what I am looking for so I am back looking for some good house cues. Paying $50 - $100.00 is in the moderately high range for these cues that often sell for $25.00 or less when three or four are purchased at one time.

Cuetec may make a nice cue but I would like the older style with four pounts. These types of cues are where the term "Sneaky Pete" came from. A Sneaky Pete looks like a house cue but is usually of excellent quality and of course it is a jointed cue the player brings with him.

These are indeed the finest ever made...58" and the same taper as all Huebler cues. Hard to find anymore.
Another option is to contact Ryan (Rat cues) at Mueller and have him hand pick & taper you whatever you need.
Also as another stated...I'm sure Schmelke can take care of you too.

Just bought a couple of Dufferins from PoolDawg. Looks like that is the best I can do for now. Thanks for all the suggestions.
