It's not just me who says it, other people tell me the same thing. I have been playing some pretty stiff competition in tournaments as well, sometimes open tournaments. Those are really tough to win games.
Need to estabish a legit fargo for myself. How do I do that if all I have is 3 sessions of APA data?

If your matches are only against opponents much better than you are, then the expected error in your rating is a little larger for a given number of games entered but doesn't get outlandish even for a 200 point average difference. And most players play in their own league, mostly.
A different way to establish robustness that would reduce the error in that situation would be to require 100 wins and 100 losses but the complication is probably not worth the slightly increased accuracy.
Play salotto matches against established players, pay $1.99 to upload results. My robustness increased the next day
A good buddy of mine gives me about the 7. I'd estimate he's a 610 range. I'm Fargo 557 currently with 429 robustness. He played in a few big $200 plus entry pro-am events and drew legit top pros, and of course got blanked or only won one game. Those were his first Fargorated events ever. He was sitting at 300P or so rating and very low robustness. Since then, he has played a few more local events, and some Salatto matches. He's climbed to a 508P with 90 robustness. Still about 100 points off from where I think he'll end up once he has 200 or 300 games in the system.
So in this example if you play opponents WAY above your skill level, it can take a bit longer for your avg game to show up.
For me, it took about 100 games and I was within a few points of where it is with 429 games.

Can I ask why you want a Fargo rating if you're not playing in enough Fargo Rate reporting tournaments to just get one over time?

I'd be happy to not have a Fargo Rate (prevents me from entering tournaments or I pay more with the staggered entries), but with 2000+ games in the system, that's impossible unless I move and change my name.

Speaking for myself. I wanted a fargo because there was finally a legitimate means to have my ability rated against peers. ...rather than the horribly biased "eye test". As far as I'm concerned, math trumps opinion. After about 1200 racks in the system, I've ended up pretty much where I think I should be. I'm with you though. In the end the system has hurt my ability to take part in the vast bulk of events in my area. Fargo has made capping tourneys far too easy.
This is easily the biggest downfall attributed to Fargo ratings.
Ya, sure... but whatever. TD's now have a viable means to throttle down sharks that like to swim in shallow waters. Not all that bad a thing, really.

Why do you "need to establish a legit Fargo"?
Is there a real need for some reason, or just something that you would like to do?
I bet there is no "need" and instead the OP does not desire to follow the established process of earning a proven (robustness) rating (fargo) and ultimately avoid paying the cost of both money and time to do so...
I'm not the OP, but I'd be interested in generating a Fargo rating for myself, if only for comparison sake. There are a few local tourneys that report to Fargo, but I don't have the time to do it. It's not of any level of importance for me whatsoever. It would be cool to be able to compare, is all. I do like that about the system, so many folks are represented, certainly at the highest levels.
What I do now is check out the ratings of folks I play with, and use that as a baseline for me.
The OP might be needing an established rating to be able to enter tournies that require it. Our local room tried to run a tourney that way, until they got a ton of pushback from the locals who haven't had any way to submit scores previously. Then they just used a committee to assign starter ratings for the tournaments sake, based on known league rankings. I do believe that all got reported tho, so that many locals have at least gotten started. I'm hoping they run some more like that, I might have the opportunity to get in one of those.
As the OP, I would suggest that you re-read my post. I would like to play in more tournaments but many require established Fargo ratings in order to be allowed to play. I have no issues with the cost or time, as you suggest to "earn" a fargo rating. I have joined a league that reports to Fargo but my rating is not considered "established" until I have a robustness score that I may not hit for a long time, given 10-12 racks a week.
