CJ, You are correct as a business owner myself and coming from a guy who's ran a pool room I can tell you this, We all meaning "business owners" have dreams of being successful and making tons of money, however sometimes our decisions may sound perfectly harmless at the time only to find out the mass destruction we could of caused. This is kind of like the WPBL, they came out with an Idea, marketed wrong, stepped on a few toes and stirred up a little controversy. Now as many businesses come across this type of behavior we both can say this--- IT"S not time to give up its time to step up do things better and try and overcome the obstacles as they appear.
To become a great pool promoter/supporter/enthusiast you must crawl, walk and run.. Just like anything else sometimes we make many mistakes and as long as we learn from them then we have a chance to move forward.
As far as the WPBL I hope they move forward. If they grab the attention of 100, 1000,10,000 more people that may show some interest to our industry than that is more than we have now, who knows if some people actually take the time to give it the chance It may add interest to the more popular games because this is a true FACT we are not growing at the rate as the economy progresses.
To answer the other question someone asked about what I meant pool is in the gossip industry, What I meant was this- the average person who heads to a bar is in hope of finding someone/people to sit and have a few drinks with and loosen up and tell them their problems. Alcohol seem to loosen the lips sort of speak. Also here's a good fact for ya, did you know?, after 9/11 one of the businesses that showed the most gains were your local bars, this do to the fact that everyone felt safe to have a couple drinks and mourn over their losses. So in pool you can relate because you can't tell me a pool player that you know that hasn't done similar to the same. It's the environment that is associated.
No matter what the condition is or the lack of business model of the WPBL their are a lot of our top players joining forces and they are not joining in hope of it lasting a few weeks or maybe a year. They are taking a chance based off of the long term business proposition that may give them that financial help that has yet to be provided by any other league, tour or system in our industry.
