Never too early for a Christmas wish list...tell me about mine

Joint, shaft taper and ferrule material

Ben

Joss, much longer Pro taper (so not as stiff of a hit). Maybe better feedback. I guess that is a matter of opinion though.

Schon, much stiffer taper. Schon cues give a much more solid, and consistent hit then Joss cues. Just my opinion.

It would be Mezz or Schon. Both will have superior build quality over the other two.

Pechauer Pro series are great quality cues too, in the similar price range.

I would chose one of those over a Joss or a Schon.

I heard such great reviews about Mezz cues from everyone, so I would chose a Mezz over a Pechauer Pro series (just because they are a mystery to me, and have such great reviews). Plus, they are made in Japan. I always loved the Helmstetter cues, that were made in Japan (by Miki / Mezz, not by Adam, in fact).

I've had 3 Pechauer cues and loved them all. Joss would be number two for me from your list. I never played with a Mezz, but have only heard good things. I traded for a Schon LTD, and I really wanted to like it, but damn was it a stiff hit. Stock maple or an OB shaft, it didn't matter. I got rid of it quickly. I have since moved to big pin wood/wood joint and won't go back. Good luck shopping! I will only play wrapless cues from here on out too. Maybe check out a Diveney cue, I hear great things about them too...

OB is the only cue with an LD shaft, it will play quite a bit different. If you are looking for a different hit than what you have now, and will be using the stock shafts, try the Schon or Mezz.

I think you mean Crown Jewel for Pechauer not "Gold Crown". I have hit with a few (a lot of juniors have them from sponsorships) and like the hit, softer feel than a Schon or a Joss with the metal joint on the ones I tried.

Yeah, I would say that the Pechauer is like a Schon/Mcdermott hybrid. Best of both worlds.

I was never a fan of schon, joss or ob. Had a Joss many moons ago & got rid of it quick. Never owned a full ob, tried the shaft out about 10 years ago hated it, never went back to try any of there new line. A buddy of mine has 4 or 5 schon's & they look nice but i really didnt like the hit.

My choice would be to try the mezz. Heard nothing but good things about them. Never hit with one either or even held one in my hands.

Im personally a custom guy because I like to collect but over the past 6 or 7 months ive fallen in love with the predator revo's. Ive actually shot better since i switched to them.

If i ever try something else production wise id choose mezz but i dont see myself switching from the revo unless i go back to shooting with some of my customs.

Hope your decision works out great for you.

Very sorry to go off topic, but have you ever tried the Lucasi Hybrid? The one I played with for a short time (until I had to sell it), I really loved.

Schon cues hit much stiffer then Joss cues.

Joss has a stiffer hit than Schon does IMO at least the way I remember it. Reminds me how a regular poster on here who is a very good player recently said that he feels that triangle tips play significantly harder than their hardness rating to him (they are rated as a "hard" tip) and he felt they actually played like super hard tips, whereas my experience couldn't be any more opposite, where to me triangle tips play very noticeably softer than their rating and play and feel like a medium tip and more on the softer end of the medium range for that matter if anything. It just all goes to show just how differently we all perceive hit and feel and how subjective it all really is.

Stiff hit? That totally depends on what shaft you buy with the cue and what tip diameter you choose.
The regulars Schon shafts is fairly stiff and the ferrule material is hard. Most Mezz cues comes with the WX700 wich is a medium stiff shaft, but the ferrule material is quite soft, so a less harsh hit. Joss sells their cues with shafts ranging from 13.25mm to 12.5mm, so it all depends on how thick the shaft is, but a regular Joss 12.75mm shaft is right there in the middle. Mezz has the best fit and finish and you can get more accessories with your Mezz, lots of different extensions and shafts to choose from, you can even get shafts with weightbolts now.
The Schon LD shaft is very much like the Katana shaft, wich is a nice LD shaft.
Joss makes two LD shafts, I prefer the non-laminated version, nice taper and great feel, a very under estimated LD shaft.
Mezz makes alot of different shafts, check out my Mezz thread: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=379036

I think i am going to remove the ob from consideration and replace it with a pechauer pro series. A wrapped pro series would be a nice match to my wrappless crown jewel pechauer.... that probably makes the most sense, but i really kind of want to tri something different...

I noticed in your signature the you have an 8" Brunswick table.
Must be tough to rack the balls on it.
