New 14.1 Thread. Updates on Ortmann/Jasmin and Hohmann/Van den Berg

Jasmin / Ortmann: 140-64
Jasmin still continuing her run, currently at 41. Has a good break ball from the right side of the table. She's eye'ing up this one pretty good. It's an easy miss. And indeed she missed it. Ormtann back to the table with options.

Hohmann / VDB:
VDB beat Hohmann to the shot and is at the table. Man, this one's a nail biter.

The nail-biting continues: VDB makes a great break shot.... and scratches off the stack. Ouchies.

GREAT COMMENTATING, Steven! Thanks! Keep it coming.

REP headed your way.

Jasmin / Ortmann: 140-90. Jasmin ahead, Jasmin at the table.

Ortmann's bridge is something like twenty inches. OMG crazy. His run continues, but he just messed up position on his keyball to the break ball. Misses the shot. Leaves Jasmin an easy 2-ball out.

Hohmann / VDB:

Hohmann thins the rack and leaves VDB a combo. VDB is eye'ing up the shot. Foolhardy, one would call it.

VDB makes the foolhardy shot. He doesn't have any shot now, though.

Ortmann / Jasmin: 141-90. Jasmin ahead and at the table.

Jasmin plays poor shot to her breakball, and has a side pocket breakshot. Doesn't look terribly easy, but I think she'll make it. I was wrong. She missed it by a full three inches.

This seems to be a replay of her match with Mika, where she jumped out to a big lead but made numerous mistakes in the end. She won that match because Mike made mistakes as well. The question arises: Will Ortmann follow Mika's footsteps or will he take advantage of her mistakes?

Hohmann / VDB:

van den Berg is pikcing apart the rack well. And by well, I mean slowly.

Meanwhile....

Jasmin / Ortmann: 141- 104. Jasmin ahead. Ortmann at the table with his break shot.

Ortmann seems to be showing some of the form that allowed him to win last year. He's gaining momentum and seems to be shooting faster and with more confidence.

He ran the rack and has a perfect break shot.

Hohmann / VDB: 121-112 . Hohmann ahead, VDB at the table.

While Ortmann is picking up his pace, VDB is slowing down his even more. I think even Souquet is getting bored watching.

Jasmin / Ortmann: 141-115. Jasmin leading. Ortmann at the table, but has to play safe.

Ortmann breaks out the balls and gets stuck against the rack. Again.

Hohmann / VDB: 121-113. Hohmann ahead. VDB at the table.

VDB finally took a shot! FINALLY.

sorry... had to step out for coffee.

Currently Ortmann at the table. Smashed a break shot but without any result. Again, no shot in front of him. He may break the table soon.

Jasmin / Ortmann: 148-115. Jasmin ahead and at the table.

Ortmann plays safe. Jasmin doesn't seem to have a shot. I smell a safety battle. WHoops, I was wrong. She had a shot and broke up the stack. Busty, you may get your wish to play "the girl" tomorrow.

Hohmann / VDB: 154-121. VDB leading and at the table.

van den Berg forges through and has gained the lead. He's keeping Hohmann in his seat. Smart strategy. Hohmann looks like he's ready to run 79-and-out.

Coffee break is too long. Get back to the action. Rep to you.

Jasmin / Ortmann: 161-115. Jasmin leading and at the table.

Jasmin clears the rack without incident.

Ortmann doesn't seem to be getting his game together. I give him one or two more tries to run out the match. Otherwise he'll be doing nothing but watching tomorrow.

Hohmann / VDB: 166-121. VDB leading and (still) at the table.

VDB not letting up. Still running out with Hohmann in his seat. He's running his racks with great precision. He's always in line. On his break shot now. Rack 'em, Toastie!

Jasmin / Ortmann: 161-115. Jasmin ahead.

Jasmin played a poor positional shot for her break ball. Forced to play safe. She leaves to cue ball under the rack, and thins her breakball. Breakball is above the stack, and Ortmann can't hit it.

Ortmann takes a break. Finally. I was wondering when he'd try and screw his head on straight.

Hohmann / VDB: 168-121. VDB leading and at the table.

VDB just makes a great shot. It happened fast but I think he kicked at a dead ball combination and makes it. Crowd applauds. His run is around 70 at this point.

Jasmin / Ortmann: 161-115

Ortmann back from the break, looking at a safety. Thins the stack and almost scratches, but stays afloat. Jasmin is looking at a long, tough shot in front of her. Does she take it? Or risk the sell out, with an opportunity for Ortmann to run balls?

Jasmin thins a ball, sending it back into the stack. There's just one big 15-ball cluster, and Ortmann is left near the side pocket to play safe. Instead he tries a tricky cut and misses but doesn't seem to leave much for Jasmin.

Hohmann / VDB:

VDB still at the table, running out. Has a tricky 7-ball cluster to deal with on the spot. He's under the cluster and plays a ball in the side to break up the balls. After dealing with that cluster, he misses.

Hohmann back at the table. Any wager he runs a 79?

Jasmin / Ortmann: 161-115 still.

We've got a safety battle on our hands. Nevermind. Ortmann just made a razor thin cut. Let's see if he gets the rest of the rack. Oh no, he's jacked up. Whew, he made it. There are a few balls open, with one or two chances to break up the stack. Don't mess it up, Oliver!

Hohmann / VDB: 176-121. VDB leading, Hohmann shooting.

Hohmann now shooting at VDB-pace.

Jasmin / Ortmann: 161-129. Jasmin ahead, Ortmann at the table.

Ortmann is struggling but making balls. Some are trickling in, some are splitting the pocket. Sometimes his position is great, sometimes it isn't. We're not seeing top form tonight.

Ortmann is trying his best to pick apart this rack, but the balls just are *not* cooperating. I feel for him. Just made a nice shot in the side to continue his run. He's on his key ball now.

He's made the key ball with position on his break ball.

Hohmann / VDB: 176-127. VDB leading, Hohmann at the table.

Hohmann continues his run. Makes his break ball. Hohmann looks a little tense now. I would be too, if my opponent just ran a 70+ and was within two racks of the win.

Jasmin / Ortmann : 161-129. Jasmin ahead and shooting.

Ortmann just missed a long corner pocket shot that he should have made. He bangs his cue on the adjacent table out of frustration.

Jasmin shouldn't have too much trouble with this rack. There are only a few free balls, but each can be used to open the stack. Meanwhile Ortmann's miss is hanging up table in a pocket for insurance.

Hohmann / VDB: 176-134. VDB ahead, Hohmann at the table.

Hohmann being very deliberate in his runout.... um, except for that last ball he just missed. It was an easy shot.

VDB takes a time out.

Jasmin / Ortmann: 170-129. Jasmin ahead and at the table.

Jasmin in fine form running out the rack. No obstacles this rack. She should run out.

Hohmann / VDB on break.

Jasmin / Ortmann: 174-130. Jasmin ahead and at the table.

Jasmin ran out the last rack without incident. Gets decent on her break ball. Makes the ball but is in the middle of the stack now. She has a shot but she'll be shooting over balls. She makes the ball.

Hohmann / VDB: 181-136. VDB ahead and at the table.

VDB with a good break shot ahead. Should make it without a problem.

Great posting!

Keep it up

Steve is COOKIN'.

What does Ortmann's facial expression look like while he is sitting in the chair? Anything meaningful or just blank?
