New 8-ball for good players...

Hi, this change is VERY interesting. Tell me what you think about that?

--- New 8-ball ---

CHANGES:
- It's more interesting for good players.
- The beginning is a mixing of 8-ball and 9-ball.
- It's more difficult to do a ball after the break.
- It's more defensive at beginning.
- Push out is permit.
- You must pocket 1-ball to have solids or 9-ball to have stripes.
- You can use 1-ball or 9-ball to pocket any balls except 8-ball.
------------------------------------------------------------------

* POCKET 1-BALL OR 9-BALL ON THE BREAK *
If you pocket 1-ball, you have solids.
If you pocket 9-ball, you have stripes.
If you pocket 1-ball and 9-ball, you have choice.
If you scratch in same time, (1) cue ball in hand anywhere on the table
for the other player, (2) table is open, (3) you must touch or pocket 1-ball
or 9-ball otherwise it is a foul.

* SCRATCH ON A LEGAL BREAK *
If a player scratches on a legal break shot, (1) all balls pocketed
remain pocketed (exception, the 8-ball: see official 8-ball rule), (2) it is a
foul, (3) the table is open.
Please Note: The incoming player has cue ball in hand anywhere on the
table.

* PUSH OUT *
After the break, push out is permit. (see push out in official 9-ball
rule)

* OPEN TABLE *
The table is "open" when the choice of groups (stripes or solids) has
not yet been determined. When the table is open, you must touch or pocket
1-ball or 9-ball in first otherwise it is foul.
You can touch 1-ball or 9-ball in first to pocket any ball except 8-ball,
if you do that, table is still open and you can continue with 1-ball or 9-ball.

* CHOICE OF GROUP *
You must legally pocket 1-ball to have solids or 9-ball to have stripes.
After, the other player can pocket his balls in any order without begin
with 1-ball or 9-ball.

* COMBINATION AND KISS SHOTS *
Combination shots are allowed; however, the 8-ball can’t be used
as a first ball. You can touch 1-ball or 9-ball in first to pocket
any ball except 8-ball, if you do that, you can continue to play.

sounds interesting where did you get that at? and what happens after you make the one or nine? Do you go to the 2 or 10? That would sound even better.

Not too sure about this. It throws too many luck factors into the mix. Besides I don't favor bringing anymore rotational games into existence anyways.

Unless players are regularly running out sets of 11, I don't think a game needs to be made more difficult.

Hi, I did this change myself. :-)

>what happens after you make the one or nine?
After, you can pocket any balls in any order like original 8-ball.
The other player can pocket his balls in any order without begin
with 1-ball or 9-ball.

>Do you go to the 2 or 10? That would sound even better.
It will be more difficult to do. :-)

Every good player I know like this new 8-ball.

With this change, when you play safe, you must hide
the 1 ball and 9 ball in same time. lol

:rolleyes: I thought this was going to be a real game not something you made up.:confused:

Give Him Some Credit

All games are something someone thought up, or variations of a game that someone else thought up.
The only change I would make would be that if the 1 or 9 is used in combo to pocket another ball, the pocketed ball's group should be assigned. IE I use the 9 to pocket the 3 I'm now solids and can proceed in any order without having to pocket the 1.

I see no point to it. All it will do is increase the time it takes to play a game. 8-ball is long enough the way it is. A person can constantly just keep tying up the 1 or the 9 unless another rule is added to prevent that.

A old rule book that I have for 8 Ball states that either the 1 or 9 ball has to be made in a side pocket before the player of that group can pocket the rest of their balls. The player of the other group then has to make the remaining yellow ball in the other side pocket before pocketing the rest of his balls. Also it is a loss of game when shooting on the 8 and not making a legal hit.

I think a lot of these rules had to be changed because of coin operated tables.

It is a good idea too. I will try it next time. :)
