New Advanced Cue Building Video coming: Suggestions Wanted!

I am beginning the shooting of a new Advanced Cue Building DVD this week. It will include Points, Inlays, Veneers, Coring and more....
Any suggestions on what you would like to see on it? I have already built the jigs to cut the 45 degree veneers right on the Deluxe Cue Smith and plan to film that today since the lathe is set up for it. Wish I would have thought of this one years ago. Forget those $400 veneer saw blades or a table saw period for that matter. If time permits I may show the jig for the milling machine and band saw for making full splice cues. It allows me to cut the grooves and handle splice into round cues. This makes getting the points even much easier than the planed square methods I show in the book. But it also takes about a $500 jig to do it also, but is worth it.
As you can tell I am excited about shooting this video, so if you have suggestions post them right away.
 
Full splice would be a selling point for me, too. The veneer trick sounds interesting as well.
 
I would like to see you cut wrap grooves, making slotted rings, and the entire process of clear coating a handle with your spray booth.

Chris: My suggestions, based on your last video:
1. No one wants to sit and watch a router run for 75% of the video.
2. Get a quite router, or remove the router sound from the video and
dub the verbage over it.
3. Hire a professional for the shoot.

Same as all above, especially the jigs for full splicing and any shortcuts that efficiently help the cue building process. I agree with the router part, we know what they sound like. (<:

I'm not attacking anyone here, but in defense of Chris and the production value of his first videos, I look at it this way:

1) Chris was one of the first cuebuilders to document in writing and on video many of the things we newbies need to read/see. This puts aspiring cuebuilders ahead of the self-taught learning curve by giving us a basis to start. Thanks to him for taking the time and resources to do that when there weren't such products on the market.

2) I'm more interested in the technical content of the video, not the video production qualities in particular. Sure, the production qualities are somewhat important, but if the material is understandable, the quality is good enough for me. By the time Chris would bring in some type of production company or assistance, I would imagine the price of the videos would go up (at least) 20 bucks or so. If you minimize the verbage over top of the router, I can turn down my T.V. from time to time when the router is running.

Chris, the fullsplice shots you mention sound very interesting and I look forward to the DVD.

Chris, I've seen the first video and it's pretty cool.

I'd like to see the fullsplice method with veneers on the new one your coming up... yeah veneers with both ends of the veneers having a sharp point. That would be the nuts:)

Those quiet routers make no noise, talked to Billy Stroud several years ago about his --- couldn't hear it -- but very pricey.

I'm with ya on that one. Guess I'm a cheapskate too:eek: :D Not that the editing wouldn't be nice, I aggree there also on the router noise being loud, but not so much concerned with It as to drive production costs up, hense raising the price of the video. As long as the content is there before and after router operations. I don't mind muting or turning the volume down in between, while the router is running.:) Infact If the little woman is in the room when watching them, she insists on It;) :D Greg
 
A few things I'm looking foward to would be coring, finishing a cue - start to finish(no pun intended) wrap groove. Can't wait to add this one to the collection, when will it debut? I need to buy popcorn, and milk duds:D
Also, I don't mind the router noise.

Suggestions Wanted!

Here's a suggestion to address the high decibel machine operation videoing:

1. Tape shut or disable the vid cam's on-board mic since it's directed towards the scene being shot.

2. Use an external uni-directional ( directed away from the high dB machine and hard sound reflecting surfaces) mic to do the audio description of the operation as it's being filmed.

Hopefully the above helps address most of the posters' concern about the high dB noise and additional cost for the pro dubbing.

We will see what all I can get on it. I filmed part of it today and I know some are not going to be happy, but it is a talk as I go DVD and the router noise will be there. But I am only running it for short spurts and tell you how much to go on the rest of the passes instead of showing all passes. I filmed the short splice groove cutting and showed the jig for cutting 45 degree veneers and I glued up one with 4 veneers and a wrap around method point blank with one veneer to show that process also. Tomorrow I plan to glue those into the v-groove blanks and start on the inlay part. My Super VHS crashed and was not giving me a good picture after 4 hours of wasted filming. It took 4 hours to get 30 minutes of film and all that time was wasted. I had to redo it all after I went and bought a digital camera. The picture was a little fuzzy on the Super VHS. The heads are dirty or something is going out. I could not find a head cleaner for it anywhere. So now I have a cool new digital camera. I don't put many 12 hour days in, but today was one of them.
Wish me luck. I am hoping to finish this thing this month. I will get 50 DVD's made at once so a waiting list is not needed. I will let you guys know when they are ready. The price will be $50 just like the older one.

I definitely recommend a menuing system to allow you to QUICKLY move to the location you want to watch.....
 
I shot the inlay portion today. I also shot some more on the points. Got the blanks glued up and showed how to use a dial indicator to cut all rings the same and showed how to make stitch rings and cut off the rings with a 1/16" wing cutter in the router.

Chris, thanks for the stich ring section. Can you tell us what is going to be different with your inlay section that was not included on your last video? By the way I wouldn't mind pre ordering the dvd from you. I am not sure that 50 will go that far. Please let us know if you decide to do so. I would be happy to send money early.
